I'm asking because for the first time Maisie was making tiny squeaks of pain and looked like she wanted to throw up after inhaling 3 oz of soup (although 2 oz were chicken and I think she might be sensitive to that). Anyway, since then I've only been giving her 1 oz at a time, and spacing them out. (And no chicken.) Is that a good idea, or should I just let her get on with it?

Hi some ferrets gobble down there food fast and end up with gas which can be really painful if she eats like crazy simply space her food out little and often so she realises food will always come there is no need to gobble it down hope this helps take care bye for now Bev

I've heard of ferrets eating so quickly they vomit right after, and ferrets who do this on a regular basis.
When we started the transition I fed watered commercial grind (so similar to soup) and sometimes Mocha would eat SO MUCH that her belly bulged and she kind of waddled. The first time it happened I was so worried because she was really bloated and when I picked her up she felt like a balloon about to burst!
She ended up gaining a fair bit of wait during that part of the transition, but she lost it again when they switched to chunks, which take more time and effort to eat.
Then again, the most she usually ate in a day was 2oz (although that's 2 oz of just meat before water added... Soupie probably has a higher water-to-meat ratio). I would recommend spacing it out though if you can.
