Has any one else encounter this problem? At first I thought my boy Monkey goy bit by a spider. He went to vet took antibiotics and got better the one sore went away. Then it reappeared a little puss was drained and 2 days later looked healed. Sore appeared again a month later - no puss- and disappeared again. Beginning of December it reappeared and was swollen, so I soaked his bum in warm water. Then 2 more appeared. Went to vet and sores got bigger on clavamox. Vet drained sores by lancing and was put on baytril. I soaked his butt and drained sores and they healed. Went back for recheck and vet gave more baytril and Monkeys butt looked good but you could feel small bumps. Checked him today and sore is back and drained puss, and other sores are coming back. He will be going back to vet. Any suggestions ?

Could it be an impacted / infected anal gland? Are his glands intact or were they removed as a kit? This definitely doesn't sound good. HeatherSherrykatt

no swab, the vet has ferret experience. Monkey is 4- 5 years old and is a marshalls. I adopted him 2 years ago. The vet did mention something about his glands. I am calling her tomorrow. There is one sore above the anus, and two one one side.

Yeah I'm wondering if his glands were not taken out or if the removal was botched.

I know of another Marshall's ferret who went through almost this identical thing due to a botched descenting. However he was only a year old. Not sure if it would have held this long with no issues before. That person's ferret had to have another descenting surgery.

Sorry, this was a few years back. As I recall right beside his anus looked almost like a boil.

I have no clue sorry. :/ Unless it's the anal glands I really can't say.

Update : The vet says his butt looks better. One more round of antibiotics with pred. If this does not work the next step is surgery. She explained that there is a type of fissual that develops around the anus.

MOnkey is doing much better, his boo boos are gone !!! The vet order some pills for him since he hated the tutti frutty flavored antibiotics. She let me purchase 20 pills so I will have some extra just in cause if gets infected again.
