Things I think my ferrets can sense.
Open doors doesn't matter if it's a closet the laundry room front or back door atleast 4 of 8 come running.
Things they can't have. I made brownie last night tonight I cut it and once I sat down to eat it I had 3 fuzzies in my lap and 2 on the floor.
Laundry time. It's basket rides and everyone at the laundry room door. I wouldn't mind them in there but the last house we rented pepper squeezed in the closet and went out a secondary dryer vent lucky it was closed on the outside but now I'm scared someone will open the vent hose.
Shower time on the rare occasion I have them out and shower there is little noses or whole ferrets running in the walk in shower.
The oven being opened if I'm baking they are running to see it can be reached it always takes both of us to keep all away.
And of course the dish washer. Even the sleepest of ferret know it's open.

Bathroom door, check. Laundry, check (BE VERY CAREFUL! Ferrets have died in the laundry!) Walk-in shower, yup. And any project done at ferret level, and any new boxes that arrive in the mail must be immediately investigated. Right, Abita? (video)

I should have mentioned presents under a tree last year they unwrapped them. Hmm with 5 more this year Im thinking no wrapping. I read on ferrets dying in the dishwasher so I'm super cautious with the dryer and dish washer.

Definitely bedroom and bathroom doors! Sometimes they'll be fast asleep while we open and a few minutes later they'll wake up and make a beeline. Even scarier, they know my routine better than I do! In the mornings when I go to open the bedroom door to get my shoes they are already waiting for me about 80% of the time.
They also seem to be able to sense when someone is about to leave, before any of the obvious signals (jingling keys, shoes, etc.) occur.
Scariest of all, sometimes I think they understand English! They'll be trying and failing to accomplish a task (usually getting onto or into something) and after watching them a while I'll comment to my husband something like "they could easily get up there if they just went from the other side" and almost immediately after saying it they will do it exactly as I described!
I'm always amazed at how clever my girls are, but as my husband routinely tells me "they're ferrets, not stupid."
