Fracas!

Been a while since I updated, have had a rough two weeks! Both my boys caught the flu, I am fine, but my cousin had it and I must have forgotten to wash my hands before I interacted with my boys when my cousin was over. Poor little Fracas had the worst of it as he was already thin when I got him, and is in the major growth stage of life. He lost 20 grams, was lethargic. I made kibble soup and fed him with a syringe 8-10 times a day. Being held and fed that way he ate with much more enthusiasm than on his own, and the vet advised me to just keep an eye on his weight and watch for signs of a secondary infection. Amok coughed and sneezed a lot but he was fat and sassy, his appetite was not affected much and he only lost 13 grams lol so he is fine. I separated him and Fracas to ensure Fracas got plenty of sleep and Amok didn't eat all of the kibble soup I left in the bowl for Fracas. Amok would try to get him to play but the little guy didn't have the energy. They are doing much better now, Fracas is still very thin but eating with gusto on his own, though I am still feeding him with a syringe a couple times a day to make sure he gets plenty. He has gained 60 grams in the last week and is no longer lethargic. He is playful energetic bright eyed and back to his normal silly kit self, but is still in his own cage until he is no longer as thin.

The poor babies. I'm glad they are feeling better. You must have done a good job nursing them. Just keep feeding Fracas and when he is 100 percent better, he will happily eat you out of house and home. That little face to just too cute. I also loved the Otter video. I'm so glad that you posted it. Silly little fellows, they made me laugh.

Oh no, how scary! It's great that you took such good care of them. It sounds like things are better, but just in case, Carnivore Care is pretty good for keeping the weight on sick fuzzies. It's powder, and you just mix it in with warm water to whatever consistency you want. I was syringe-feeding Maisie after her blockage surgery and she gained 50 grams in one week! It's so sweet how they are willing to eat if we hand feed them

Thanks Poncesmom and Blue, I am self employed and make my own hours so I rescheduled a bunch of clients and worked it out so I could be home often to feed the little guy. Amok has already gained the weight back and a bit more lol he definitely wasn't affected by it as much as Fracas was.
Fracas loves feeding time, he snuggles right into my sweatshirt and just eats as much as he can every time. I can tell him and I will have a very special bond. Not that I don't have a great bond with Amok, but there is always something that happens with a sick fuzz that you nurse back to health. He loves when I talk to him, and is extremely sweet for a young kit. He was nippy and play bit rather hard when I first got him, as most kits will do, but through this as he has gotten better and started playing again, he is very gentle and has become extra kissy. I have let him play with Amok for brief periods in their playpen the last 3 days, and I know that he is not gentle when he plays with Amok so it isn't lack of strength lol
If he continues to gain weight well and gets some padding back on him, I will put him back with Amok soon. They really are best buds, but Amok is still so much bigger that with Fracas being sooooo thin I worry he might get hurt. He tires after about half an hour during play time so I put him up to rest and play with Amok myself
Love these little guys. I will look into Carnivore Care, never heard of it... I stuck with kibble soup for Fracas because of his illness, he will be switched soon to raw. Still have that batch of soupy in my freezer, and Amok has been doing well eating bigger and bigger meat slivers, haven't introduced any bone yet as I was preoccupied with their illness

Awww, I'm glad they're doing better. A couple years ago we had a flu go trough our business and it was so pitiful seeing first on then another get lethargic and tired all the time.
