You need to get her to a vet. The protocol will not work if you can't get that to pass through her. If she vomits she's totally blocked up. You don't need blood work done, you need an xray....a barium xray. All places are equipped to do this. Any vet can perform this. Good luck, candles are lit for your little one ciao

We took her to the vet, the vet insisted there was no blockage, but everything I am reading about her symptoms, such as the projectile vomiting says blockage. Out of the 2 we could find that are open today, one won't see ferrets and the other won't do the x-ray. The will only do it on cats and dogs Which means I am stuck until tomorrow. Tomorrow I can take her to a vet that I know will do it, but I don't want to wait that long. We have already spent over $300 trying to find out what is wrong with her.
We actually stopped at one vet that was open who turned us down because she was a ferret. They told us the only place around that takes exotics is the zoo vet. Obviously that isn't true, but finding a vet to take her to is the problem.

I can not believe how hard it is to find a vet that takes ferrets that will run tests! At this point I am looking at having to travel out of state. I can't not believe there isn't a single vet in a 200 mile radius that will take take a ferret that will do an x-ray as well on a weekend.
I don't know, I keep thinking maybe I am just googling the wrong information. I have tried googling emergency vets. Apparently all that means is they take animals 8-5 Monday through Friday with out an appointment. I have tried 24 hour vets. Most will not take "exotics" (that is the term the give me) the only one will not do an x-ray.
I can't stop crying. I just don't know what to do. I just can't believe there isn't a single vet I can get her to.
What if tomorrow is to late?

I'm just signing on for today and missed most of this. I'm so sorry about Gilly. Have you tried Googling Ferret rescues, call them and ask who they use.
I show one shelter so far, Utah Ferret Amici Salt Lake City, UT (801) 463-1124
and I'll keep looking

Thanks I'll call the rescue. I didn't think about that!
The vets listed aren't open tonight. The second vet listed is the one we took Gerri to last Thursday and will most likely be taking Gilly to 8 am tomorrow morning, if we can't find anything open tonight.
To be honest I hate to say it, but I would have had an easier time finding an emergency vet for a ferret in California.

I understand. When we first moved to Tennessee and left behind a good ferret doc in Florida, Ponce got sick and I was frantic trying to find a vet around here, who would see ferrets. More cows than people, and no exotic vets. We ended up seeing a vet in Kentucky, she tried to be helpful but wasn't a ferret doc. We finally found one in Nashville, but there are no emergency vet clinics around here either.
How is Gilly doing now?

How is she doing? Check her gums/paw pads for color and her skin for dehydration. Hopefully she can hang on until the morning when vets open, they always have emergencies at the worst possible time. Crossing my fingers and thinking of her.

I called the lady from the rescue. She was hard pressed to come up with a vet that did after hours and weekends, but I got a number for a vet. I called them, and the do the x-rays but it is hit or miss whether they have a vet that takes ferrets in the office. I am supposed to call back at 11 pm.
She is clearly dehydrated, but moving around more. I have been giving her water via syringe every half hour or so.

Fingers crossed that you can get Nixxie in to the vet. I can only imagine how scary it is to see your little one so sick. *hugs*

We got a small amount of poo. She kept getting in and out of the litter box, straining and nothing except for collapsing where she stood due to lack of energy.
Well, we just got a tiny bit of poo, maybe a quarter of a normal poo, but it is something.
We can't get her into any one until the morning. I am going to continue with the meds that the vet we saw last night gave. The little bit of poo gives me hope that she can hang on until tomorrow.
