and sorry for the delayed response. It was a crazy week this week. If you don't hear from me within a two day time frame just pm me here or on fb. September is my busiest time of year at work (I work for a school board). How is the job hunt going?

The next day. I just gave him a chicken leg to chew on. he started on it and decided he really like the skin. He used to not like to chew it, my guess is because it was too much chewing. But he started on the skin and then after a little while gave up. after he gave up I took my kitchen shears and made a snip into the meat, he became interested in the leg again and started chewing on the meat. I broke a leg bone in half and he started to lick the marrow out. He is starting to realize there is more to meat and soup. Since I have been not feeding cassia she has to contend with the others to eat the hanging meat in the cage. on days that are not what she likes (poultry) she will normally sniff what is hanging and run off. after a bit of cute faces and finally deciding that I won't cave, she starts to nibble at the hanging meat. She used to not like the rodent pro chicken (the others love it) now she will eat it. the other day (mouse day) I got this picture. she is actually starting to eat mouse.

Awesome!! Yep, they definitely have to learn that you won't cave. They really are masters of manipulating their ferrants.
Regarding the chicken leg. I find that since we feed our ferrets regularly the often will wait for an easier meal if something is to hard to eat. If you watch how they eat they chew with the sides of their mouths. This makes eating rounded things (like chicken legs) difficult. I always slash things like legs or thighs and try to avoid roundish pieces when cutting up meat (I usually do strips).

I had a couple of phone interviews in Oregon. I still have not heard back. the longer I go unemployed the more I am encouraged to pick up and move to a different state.

Awesome!! Yep, they definitely have to learn that you won't cave. They really are masters of manipulating their ferrants. This I know. Mogwai is becoming the master of cuteness. He absolutely loves mouse, and he knows it comes from the freezer/fridge. If I ever go to the fridge and he is out he will come running and put on his cutest prairie dog impression and then paw at my leg so I know he is begging. The other day I did not even go to the fridge and he was up pawing at the fridge then while still pawing turns his head to look back at me. Like "Please give me mouse". Needless to say he got mouse that day. I could not resist the cuteness.

Ok,
so since yesturday I have not been giving him his regular meals. I have found that he is now eating regularly from the cage. I felt his belly this afternoon and it was pretty full. Today I saw him eating about 4 times. so with only my twice a day feedings I am sure he was pretty hungry by the time the next meal came around.
Today before he went into the cage to eat. he went into the kitchen and started pecking my feet and looking up at me. I did not cave and feed him. then about 30 mins later is when I saw him in the cage eating the pork liver.
I had pork heart, pork liver and chicken leg meat in the bowl. He must have got drawn into the chicken leg meat and went onto the liver.
So should I continue to feed all of them from the cage. I will not be able to weigh the food since all 5 are together and eating whatever I put in there. I can continue to weigh them and post the weights.
Tomorrow I will put rabbit in the cage and see if Koufos and Cassia eat that, If they eat the rabbit do you think we can stop the twice a day feeding? except for maybe making sure they are getting their liver, heart and kidney each week.

Yep, sounds good to me. Have you seen him actually consuming bone yet? Organs and muscle meat are definitely a major victory but the last bit is making sure he is eating bones as well.

last night I could hear him crunching the meat and bone. as for actually eating it I guess the proof is if his poop is solid, yes?
I know I saw him eating the marrow out of a bone I broke.

If he is crunching while eating bone in meats then he is eating bone. The next step is to post a weekly menu and then we'll get the elder Admins to approve Cassia's and Koufos's graduation!!

ok. I was thinking the same menu I had for my younger but that changes based on what I have on hand.
I will put a new menu together and post it this evening.
poops are soft but formed. so I guess he is good. I did find they Koufos is allergic to turkey. He gets rally seedy diarrhea, whenever he eats it. I eliminated it 3 times and his poop normalized. each time added it back and 4 hours later he had the same seedy runny poops.

Sounds good. We just need to see what you feed in a week. Which meats, what type (organ, heart, muscle, bone in) and what amounts. Just do a menu for Cassia and Koufos since those are the two that we switched.
