they are eating bone very well only the biggest of bone pieces are left after wings. I haven't tried organ by it's self. I'll see what I can do. With this being a collage town it's hard to find places like specialty stores. When Thomas gets paid I'll see what I can do. I know I can find liver and heart ok but I'm not so sure about other organs. Other then mice I haven't tried any other meats yet. I still have 5 lbs of rabbit in the freezer. Is it ok to get them all eating mice well first? I was trying it with one new meat at a time. Is it better to try dif ones all at once? My first goal was chicken and beef and my next was mice then rabbit. Those were the primary meats I was planning on giving them. I don't think turkey will be a prob since I had given them ground turkey before. I'll get some turkey necks though when Thomas gets paid just to check and make sure Turkey isn't an issue. so it's looking I need to work on them with organ mice rabbit and pork?

If you can't find anything other than liver just yet, that's ok. Just add in whenever you can Mine did very well with only having kidney once in a while when I could get it. As for new meats, only trying one new one a week is a really good idea. It's also whatever you are more comfortable with And working with them on those proteins is a good idea. I gather you still have some holdouts with the mice? How comfortable are you with the idea of chopping up frozen pinkies to mix with the meats? That was literally the only way I could get any of mine started

Hey sorry about the being MIA from the switching thread. With the whole Lizzy having been the the hospital, the ferret bedding working on disability....it's been NUTS around here! They are all still doing well with chicken beef and mice. I'm thinking about starting on the rabbit today. Once they start eating that well I'll have all the meats I plan on feeding. Then I'll just have to work on a menu. Any way, I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah I try. Like I said I have the ground chicken and beef with all the organs and stuff. Plus mice. I would think they are getting enough organ. I hope any how. I DO have some organ soup still too I may give them some of that today too just to make sure.

If they are getting daily organ, they should be fine Sounds like you, AND they, are doing really well. Ok, when you've incorporated what you want in the diet, write up your menu, and we'll get you graduated

The main thing is that you understand what, and why, they get certain meals in the amount they do. Also, how to adapt and substitute various meats for a variety of reasons. Such as, if poopies are loose, either cut back on the organ meat, or up the amount of bone. What percentages(in either days/meals/% of meat/bone/organ. How much heart and why. The use of pumpkin, and what it's for, etc. I think you've basically got a handle on all of that, and if you have any questions about any of it, just ask

working on rabbit will have to wait a while. My grandpa is dieing. I HAVE to find a way to get down there but I have almost NO options due to lack of funds. My mom needs me. IDK what to do. I literally feel sick to my stomach over it. It's mostly heart breaking cause he never got to see my youngest. But he is DEF on his way out. He had a stroke and is in a coma with NO hope of a recovery. I'll get on trying the rabbit when it all settles. Maybe I might be able to convince Thomas to give it a try for me. We'll see.

OK gave the rabbit a try and they did NOT like it. So I gave pork a try and it was all good with them. So they will eat organ, beef, chicken, turkey, pork and mice. They even liked the goose egg I gave to them. It wasn't easy getting all of this stuff tried out with all the traveling and stuff I did to Florida and back. But at least I got to say good bye to Grandpa and I got to go to the funeral. I just made sure I left some detailed instructions for Thomas. He handled it all like a pro! Mommy is so proud of her little hubby! Any way, that's all I can think of to update you on.

I can think of one more thing- a formal menu plan As in: Monday: Tuesday: Wed: etc. Please list what you are going to feed for each day, keeping in mind the meat/bone/organ ratio, as well as including heart for at least one muscle meal a week

Ok how's something like this sound?
Monday: pork ribs Wings
Tuesday: stew beef Thighs
Wednesday: Mice Organ
Thursday: hearts and gizzards Thighs
Friday: chicken or turkey neck Beef (some other type of beef I can find, bone in or out)
Saturday: Mice Organ
Sunday: wings pork neck bones
The pork ribs I'm referring to here are the ones that have no bone in them. We call them southern or poor mans ribs here. I also, to switch it up a bit, I would sub one meal a week or every 2 weeks with some ground something or other and add goose egg to it. Also for the organ I'll either make organ soupies or I'll get the ground organ from Hare Today. I'll keep trying dif meats with them every now and then to mix it up every now and then. I'd like to see if they'd eat fish at some point. I could totally go fishing around here. We'll see, that's a little ways off to think about still. But this is the primary stuff I know I can get, and that the ferts will eat.

Do they actually eat the thigh bone? If not, I'd substitute one with another bone in meal. Also, ditch one of the organ meals, unless you are feeding 2 oz each of liver one meal, and the same of some other organ the other? For heart, it should be an all heart meal, or if you can't find enough heart for that, then you'll need to supplement with some taurine.

They actually DO eat most of the thigh bone. Not all of it, like the thickest parts, but most of it they do. I can get beef heart pretty easy so I can switch an organ meal for a heart meal and keep the gizzards just as a gizzards meal. They are actually getting gizzards and a few pork necks pieces tonight. They are getting some pork neck with it cause I don't have enough gizzards left for a whole meal.
