I think getting more protein in would be a good start. Getting them off grinds isn't entirely necessary, but it is important to get as much variety as possible. Cornish game hen would be the best start since it is a small bird, so if you can get them used to it, it will serve as a good additional bone source. Might even be easier to get them used to CGH wings than chicken because they're so soft and flexible. Congrats on the Stella and Chewy's! I'm glad they're showing promise.

here's my plan for the week. their mommy is going out of town Tuesday and will be gone 8 days ( my daughter) so I don't want to change too much this week. Stella and chewy duck duck goose in the cage. I will weigh it to see how much they are eating. two meals a day 1/2 grind 1/2 wing tips. I will keep adding chicken gizzards to get them use to that. I will alternate with chicken chunks also. what are your thoughts?

daily update. they have been moved from their cage to the play pen on the first floor. Will help grandpa and me with feeding and play time for the next 9 days. last night they ate 8 oz grind and wing tip. penny at one gizzard piece. they ate .08 oz one single serving of stella and chewy chick chick chicken dinner today in the cage. tonight they have only picked at their dinner. left out grind wing tips and gizzards. I hope with their mom being gone and change in environment we don't have a set back.

last night they finished their bowl. I didn't realize they ate the whole package of wing tips already. they only thing I had defrosted today was grind and gizzards . Left 8oz for them today. more grind than gizzards. they are the grind but not the gizzards. have them 16 oz of grind and chicken chunks no bone for dinner. I cut up the cgh. put one piece in each bowl. I'll get you another update tomorrow.
btw pedro is beating everyone up. and all the boys were wanting to be held. penny just sleeping thru dinner. I think they miss their mommy.

Awww their attachment to their owners is incredible isn't it? Just the fact that they get so upset when they know their owner is gone.
Not having bone tonight is fine, the gizzards isn't a problem. They're not a necessary body part, they just count as muscle meat. They are useful for cleaning teeth, but once your ferrets are used to cleaning whole bones it shouldn't be a problem. So don't stress if they avoid the gizzards, but feel free to keep adding them if you want.

I would like to add them because where I live gizzards are inexpensive. Would like it as a muscle meat for them.

last night no one touched their dinner. this morning I have them another bowl but keep the old in the play pen. when I got home from work they ate about 1 1/2 bowl from last night. I over sleep today so they didn't get play time this morning. so far tonight they have been running all night cause they are full off energy. don't think I will catch them eating tonight but we'll see.

A day of decreased appetite isn't uncommon. As long as you can catch all of them at least taking a few bites, or if they eat enough tomorrow I wouldn't be concerned. Sometimes there are factors we don't notice that come into play with their appetites. There is a chance they're rebelling from depression without their mommy home though, so if they don't eat tonight or tomorrow morning I would start tracking their weight and keep an eye on variables such as heat or stress. Check their poops for any concerning colors or consistencies, etc.

poops have been good. actually had only one accident in the last day and a half (knock on wood) activity is high. I did see toro and penny eating tonight. bbuddy nibbled a little and Pedro is eating now. I think it's just the change in environment. I did give them some pheasant dream treats tonight. I'm going to give them some eggs tomorrow for a treat. btw, someone I think penny ate a huge chunk of cgh. 1/2 of a wing. the half of the leg is still in there.

Oh my, so sorry I forgot to post the last two nights. I'm so busy, I can't believe how much4 ferrets ppoop!!# not usually my job not much has changed here. they had duck eggs Thursday night. grind with chicken chucks Thursday and Friday. this morning they are eating the organ mix. the last few days I have had to encourage eating. last night penny would only eat from my finger. she is having a hard time with her mom gone. tomorrow is weights, however activity and poops are normal. even though overall intake is down.

weekly update:
Buddy 2lb 12 oz, no change, activity lower but now back to normal. poops normal Toro 3lb 0 oz, lost 2 oz, activity higher than usual. poops normal Pedro 2lb 4 oz, no change, activity was lower but now back to normal. poops normal Penny 2lb 0 oz, no change, activity normal. poops normal.
Monday: Grind with wing tips and chicken chunks 16 oz Tuesday: Grind with gizzards and chicken chunks 6 oz (day their mom left) Wed: Grind with gizzards and chicken chunks, 2 pieces of CGH, one pheasant dream treat each Thurs: Grind with chicken chunks, gizzards, 2 pieces of CGH Friday: Grind with chicken chunks, 2 pieces of CGH Sat: Organ grind for breakfast (Buddy only took a few bites, the other finished 8 oz), rest of the day grind with chicken chunks, 2 pieces CGH Sun: Grind with chicken chunks, gizzards, CGH for breakfast. As a treat I bought a live mouse for them for dinner, they did good with first hunt and kill, but no one wanted to eat it,just stash it. I cut it open and added oil, they licked but could not bite a piece out of it. I put in the bowl with grind for the night to see if anyone would be able to bite into it.
It looks like I only have enough grind for the next week. When I make it next time should I grind organs and chicken separate to start giving different meats on different days to add the chunks to? I do notice that they eat the grind first, but then left with nothing but chunks they will eat them. Or should I use the soup recipe again for the grind meats? should I start giving chunks without the grind to force them to eat chunks first? I guess I'm at a loss of what to do to move forward with the switch.
