Hey there! I am moving in with my boyfriend in the summer and he is renting an apartment. When we get a ferret, I want to keep the cage in the bedroom, which is carpeted. I was just wondering what sort of methods you guys use for protecting the carpet in rental places? Like digging/scratching in corners and of course accidents. I have heard of some ferrets that will sometimes just push their litter box out of the way and poop on the floor! What kind of things do you use to protect your carpet? I have heard of using tiles or plastic but I'd like some more specific information and personal experiences. If you have items you use for carpet-protecting, please send me a link or tell me where to get them! Oh, and any other ferret-proofing tips are also appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Plastic runners to go down hallways are good. Here you can get it in hardware shops by the metre. Sometimes from fabric shops.

I lined all 4 corners of the ferrets room with cardboard, that way I can just change it if they have an accident. But its more of a temporary thing, and I'm not overly bothered about my floors. Mine like to poo in dark places, like under the couch, so you'll probably have to cover the floor there.
Be careful with covering carpet, just make sure whatever you use goes up the wall a bit too (if that makes sense) as when they pee on the floor in the corner, it may leak over the edges of the covering, and into the carpet. Same with any joins in the covering.
And you may find it hard having the cage in the bedroom. I have a fold out couch in their room, which I'll sleep on if they're sick, to monitor them. But all they do is stay awake, wrestle and make lots of noise if you're in the room

Carpet protectors or plastic runners from any office supply place will do the trick.

Would they get underneath regular plastic carpet runners and like push them around and stuff? Should I try to find adhesive carpet protector, or is that unnecessary?

They'll sure try ahahah
Normally, plastic carpet covers have small spikes all over the bottom to hold them in place. But I'd try taping it to the wall skirting if you have it
