Is cod liver oil safe for ferrets? The only ingredient is cod liver oil... Or is salmon oil the only kind they can have??

You can feed it especially if you weren't able to get your liver rations that week. I feed it about once a month. You cannot feed it as often and without impunity as you would say salmon oil. Cod liver oil is very high in Vit a and has a tendency to build up on itself. I would sooner feed the real thing rather than the supplement (oh they do love it by the way  ;D) ciao |

Thread hijack occuring here ;D Boris does not generally like the commercial raw- that's what apparently triggered the IBD. He can't have chicken, and hates beef liver with a passion. Can't get pork liver.
Now, I've been giving him the commercial raw regardless, so he actually gets some organ meats. I've also been pureeing the rabbit liver in with his favourite, pork.
If he were to be supplemented with cod liver oil, what would be a good weekly amount for a ferret who is getting little liver? Or would just the rabbit liver be enough?

I would think that the rabbit liver would be sufficient but you wanted or if you were concerned that the liver has suffered some degradation from freezing could try giving him .5 or .75 mls every couple of weeks. That's one of the reasons why I give my guys the cod liver because all the liver they get has been frozen before.

Thanks Heather  I'm still having a bit of trouble getting some foods into him(especially with the supplements- we're still working out his threshold for them right now), so I'm never sure if he's getting enough or not. |

Hi basically one cod liver oil capsule per ferret every one/ two weeks is enough if there liver levels are rationed ( simply prick capsule and drip onto food ) hey presto a measured amount that doesn't cost the earth lol hope this helps take care bye for now
