I found this korean supermarket that sells.......goat meat on bone.....all these different cuts of beef with bone ....beef tonuge and yes....rabbit and other meats that I didn't really check.. I couldn't tell if the rabbit had bone because it was frozen. I was so excited about finding the place that I didn't look at prices. LOL. Its a little far from me I will have to take 2 buses but I plan on going once a month. Now these are big meat pieces can I refreeze the meat after I thaw to cut them? I'm assuming I can cause I do that for myself. Also some of these meats have thick bone.....no way can they chew them. Can I smash them some how and (mince?)then grind them so at least they are getting the bone part? What's the best tool to use? I'm sure this has been all asked before......

Awesome find! You can definitely thaw them a refreeze, but know that the more time you refreeze, the more the nutrients are degraded.
If you can smash the larger bones and expose the marrow, that would be okay - it's full of great nutrients. You would probably need a very heavy duty, industrial strength grinder to grind those larger bones.

Also, you could stock up on edible bony meats like chicken and duck wings and feet to feed with the other muscle meats you find

If I partial defrost to just cut everything once is that ok? Then I could put smaller amounts in freezer bags. What about those metal grinders do they still have to be big if I smash most with a hammer or mallet? Oh boy this would be a good time to let loose with my aggression! LOL

If I partial defrost to just cut everything once is that ok? Then I could put smaller amounts in freezer bags. That's perfectly fine That's what I usually do. I find most meat is easier to cut partially frozen. I'd say you can defrost and refreeze a couple times before it's bad. Most of the grinders that CAN handle bones can only handle poultry bones, so chicken, duck, turkey. To get those larger bones ground it would probably need to a very large and expensive grinder.

I got it! I guess they can get the raw meats without the bone. I'm planning on chicken, duck, cornish hen fish (once in a while)frozen mice and rats. Ribs too so anything xtra is good. There's no quail or things like that here and I'm not going the mail way. As justahannah says ill stock uo on the tips. Thanks

That's a good amount of variety. They should be having 4 days bone in meats, 2 days boneless meats, and 1 day of organ meats and whatever else you have left over. Sounds like your fuzzies will be getting lots of yummy foods

So glad you were able to find that place! Just remember- meat is HEAVY to carry, especially on the bus ;D Maybe just pick up your edible bone there, and maybe some goat meat?

By the way, are your ferrets switched to raw already? If not you can sign up for the mentoring program to help with the switch

they would probably cut the carcasses or parts into smaller pieces for you - would save you the trouble of having to deal with it yourself. the butcher i go to does that for me (and doesn't charge extra, either).

LOL Jackie I haven't even gotten my ferts. I know this is funny but right now I have 2 rats in a small apt. I cant have the two in the same place(My rats free range when I'm home and are let out in a playpen at night when I'm sleeping. If I had ferts....well no more rattys! But I'm getting prepared. I have 2 vets lined up. What to feed them how to make soupies. What to look out for when I get them and now I have a place to buy some different meats. If I hang out here long enough Ill be a pro like you guys. All before I get them ..but thats when the real learning comes. When I get them definitely looking for a mentor!!
