Bonkers is dry heaving. Just started. 3 times in 10 minutes.
Vet isn't open yet. What can I do?
She seems pooped out now. She was fine then started dry heaving. Nothing came up.
How serious is this? Should I give her childrens benadryl? What do I watch for?

Update: Still good info to have on hand in case it happens again for no obvious reason, but... I looked in the last place she had dry heaved and found one single piece of wet food. I guess she had been choking on it (if she had kept it up I was going to check). So yay for finding it so I know what happened, and yay she was able to get it out herself.

Oh, good! Glad this resolved itself Looks like a bit of food went down the wrong way.

She started again and no food in her throat.
Should I give her benadryl? Vet? What?

Also, just a idea. We have a dog who does this if her stomach is to empty. Once we force her to eat something, it stops. I have the same problem. with only seeing one piece of food I might try some soupie and see if that stays down

Try getting some pumpkin or lax into her. It *could* be some fur stuck in her throat.

She seems to dry heave, then rub her face on the floor. Not pawing at her mouth or anything and still has a ton of energy. Just watched her drink water too.
Should I do baby food or pumpkin? Teaspoon or tablespoon of each?
Thanks. Vet wanted me to come in as an emergency visit while theyre open, which they want a freaking $600 deposit in case an emergency happens while she is there.....but we have $400 on credit card and no money in the bank due to the move and all the bills from Booth...

You may want to try pumpkin first, wait 1/2 hr than baby food or soupie

Okay, she only took about 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp of pumpkin.
I'll see how she does and try baby food if she starts again.
What should I watch for in case this is something serious?

Yikes pricey...good that she is drinking water and energetic, you should have no problem getting some pumpkin into her. Watch for her poops to make sure she has no blockages.

I personally would start getting concerned if you can't keep any baby food down her. How is her poop?

I haven't seen her poop yet. She hasn't gone since she first started. I did see her go yesterday with a very healthy poop though. So at least if it is a blockage or hairball it is just from today.
The only symptoms she has right now is the dry heaving (two instances about 3 hours apart). They are short, usually a couple minutes only with stops inbetween. And then afterward she rubs her face on the floor.
The first time at the end she coughed up a wet piece of food. No vomit, no goo, no fur. Just one piece of food. Three hours later her throat looks clear from objects and I gave her pumpkin.
Right before pumpkin and right after second attack, she drank some water. She is currently sleeping and fatigued from the recent episode. Also, she did put up a decent fight with the pumpkin. Kept pulling away and wanting to walk away.
Haven't really looked at her stomach, but when I picked her up, she doesn't seem bothered.

Assuming she ate this morning and knowing you got some pumpkin into her the next thing I would say is just watching for a poop. The baby food soupie is a good idea too, to push it through if it is a hairball. Hopefully just a hair issue! Thanks for keeping us posted.

I gave some ferret lax, pumpkin, ferret lax. If she does it again I will give her baby food with a tiny bit of pumpkin in it. Will also give her some water if it happens again - by syringe if I have to. What's the skype thing? I need to chat. Can't stop freaking out.
