Whole? Crushed? Or give them the insides and dry/grind the shell to powder to give later? I've given them an occasional yolk when I make myself eggs for breakfast as I don't eat the yolk, but I was just wondering how to go about feeding a whole egg.

never give the egg white, its bad for your fuzzles. i believe it causes vitamin b deficiency or some horrible thing o.o yolk is GOOD so is crushed egg shell if you're feeding raw as its a good substitute for bone

I always just give them the whole thing. The three of them share one egg a month and I just put it in a bowl and whisk it all together.

A biotin deficiency only occurs if you only feed egg white. To prevent this simply feed no more then ONE raw WHOLE scrambled egg a week per ferret. You may mix in a tad (like a teaspoon) goats milk or as much water as you like. I use wrm water and eggs I leave out for an hour. They dont like anything cold except water. Just mix it together like you are making your own eggs just dont cook. Mine prefer a small plate as opposed to a bowl when having anything liquid. Also keep in mind crushed egg shell is not a substitute for bone, but a supplement to be used during the switch to real bones

Yes, whole egg is the perfect food. After all- it's meant to feed a growing embryo but like anything else, in moderation. What you are thinking of is feeding an over abundance of them, or of just the white. That CAN cause an imbalance. The avidin in the white can bind to the biotin in the body, causing a biotin deficiency. But a couple of whole eggs a week won't hurt them at all Mine get them raw, partially cooked, scrambled, boiled. But mainly raw and blended up.

Mine aren't egg fans, so I don't give them often, usually either in a soup raw or I will cook them, they don't seem to like them just normal raw and they won't touch the shell at all, well they drag it around and make a mess, but don't eat it.

Thanks guys! Yeah I figured it was if you ONLY feed the whites. Remember reading that a while back. Sherry, do you feed the shell? In big pieces or ground powder? (Assuming raw. I read the post about baking the shells in the oven makes them like glass)

I only feed the shells ground in soups. Mine won't touch them otherwise.

And yes- with any form of cooking they can be fed(shells) but must be powdered completely.

I feed whole eggs. The egg shells I powder. I occasionally mix the powder with whole meats when I'm feeding eggs and meat chunks, but most times I will mix it in soupies or baby foods. ciao

This brings up another question. You experienced raw feeders still feed soupies? Or are you dealing with sickies that need to eat it? When I switched my guys to raw they were so good they only needed soupies for about a week or two. Haven't fed it since then. Should I be?

Most definitely. At some point your wee ones WILL get sick. Better to have a pureed food they will readily accept than have to force feed. I still feed a soup every couple of weeks.

I crack a couple of eggs into a bowl and let them go to town. Kids seem to love them, and 2 eggs a week between 9 ferrets is just a nice treat for them.
