So you know us, we're crazy. ;D We run tunnels everywhere, and don't let silly little things like doors or walls get in our way. Anyhow, since we had a shot at being on tv for the ferrets (doesn't seem to have worked out sadly) we didn't want the condo association to see we had drilled holes in the walls over the doors so we repaired and filled the holes. Then we went out and bought two solid core doors, took down the existing hollow core doors. We cut the doors to fit, put on the hardware, cut a chunk out, built a frame to support the tunnel, then re-ran some tunnels. The result is as you see below. We can close the doors for privacy, the tunnels aren't in the way. Doors still need a little sanding and another coat of paint, and we intend to velcro up some white cloth on the inside side in the rooms over the tunnel section to block light and offer a littlem ore privacy. but you get the idea. We did this to the 2 upstairs rooms.

Excellent! But just to let you know, if you own the condo board can't say a darned thing as long as you aren't touching load bearing walls I live in a place with a condo board

You guys are just awesome and I'm sure your ferts are some of the happiest alive!!! But, I must have missed this somewhere, what happened with the TV show? I was SO rooting for you to get on it. This makes me sad

I think we weren't odd enough for them, they kept asking if we were going to any events or shows with our ferrets (I said no because the closest was PA) and if we dressed them up or anything. They'll probably end up with some crazy cat lady instead lol.
As for the condo association, you are correct Sherry. We can make all kinds of changes so long as we do not change the structure. Cutting through a door beam may or may not have counted as structure, we didn't want to risk it and decided it may not have been a good idea anyway.

Lol I'm sure you could work out a rate with him. Also we found out recently that our doors don't have actual framing around them. (Nor do the toilets below the floor) *sigh* hate this place. hope we get to move in a few months.

I could probably get him to put up some how to videos or something. Sadly you're not in the same area of NY as his family is, he is going to visit them in December I believe. They're way upstate. A tunnel to a feeding den is pretty easy. Get a tote, drill a hole with a keyhole bit. Put the dryer quick release in, add the bolts then connect the tunnel via the gasket and voila, hooked up.

a video would be nice, but how did you get the tube in the ferret nation cage, or maybe he can do a tutorial like the one that is the how to make a trampoline.

We basically used wire cutters to cut out a square hole in the side of the cage, crafted some custom steel plates and bolted them to either side of the hole to protect against escape and sharp edges. We attach the tunnels via dryer quick release valves and use gate valves to seal off cages at will. A tutorial or a video would be nice, but it won't be forthcoming anytime soon as we are both extremely busy for now.

Also, how does one craft a custom steel plate? I think your skill levels are way above mine on DIY stuff . Another question is what type of tunnels are those that you've used for going through the doors? I'd prefer to use that type over PVC with drilled air holes.

The gate valves came from amazon too, they're a special type of RV valve, only place we've found them. You could also use any sort of blast gate large enough, it needs to be 4" at least. We get the dryer quick releases on amazon and home depot. The steel plate, we basically bought 16 gauge steel I believe, cut a square to size, cut a 4" hole out in the middle with a keyhole bit, then ground the corners down and the sides of the hole and everything with an angel grinder and sander so there would be no sharp edges. Oh, and we drilled some holes to drop bolts through. The tunnels are made by super pet, www.superpetusa.com/product-list/ferretrail-funnels-tube-maze.htmwww.superpetusa.com/product-list/index.php?species=2374&category=2397&page=2
