So, we wanted to have an actual headboard for our frame. But we didn't want anything really nice for now, because we know the fuzzkids will just ruin it anyway. We also wanted a book case headboard with some storage so we could have a place to put our alarm clocks and cell phone charging stations without the ferrets knocking them over. Finding a pre made headboard with doors like we wanted in a reasonable price range was nearly impossible though, so Matt decided to build his own. Before any modifications: And after: Basically, we made our own tracks and installed them, cut our own lexan doors to fit, drilled finger holes in and set them in the tracks, then attached everything. It could use a few minor improvements such as not rattling in the track when you shift in bed, but overall it worked out very nicely, and so far no one has managed to figure out how to get a paw or nose in a hole and open it. We have cords running out theb ack throug ha 2" hole we drilled with a keyhole bit. It should be noted that we then plugged the hole with one of those plastic furniture fill pieces to keep the ferrets out ,as it took Mayhem all of 30 seconds to trap herself in there before we had plugged the hole in back, lol.
