Today I had my beloved Spooky dog put to sleep. I got her as a 6mo old from the RSPCA just over 13 years ago. She had knee surgery when she was about 8yo and since then has had athiritus and while she has cataracts and couldn't see so well and whether selective or old age her hearing seemed not as good as when younger, she was fairly healthy.
Today she kept falling over (I thought her wonky legs had finally got too much for her) and also the little she ate came straight back up and she wouldn't even try her beef soup bone (which she normally loves). She was drinking loads though but not peeing much despite several squats as if she wanted to. I knew when I made the vet appointment that the likely outcome was there was nothing to do and it was time. I didn't want to do it by myself so called Ma. When she came over Spooky perked up so much, being spoiled by her 2 favourite people (Ma & me).
Even though she was wagging her tail and had a huge smile, at the vets he said she appeared to have a neurological problem. Cortisone might buy a few days but that it was time. A few days that may have been not as happy didn't seem like it would be fair to her when if we put her to sleep right away she would be happy and surrounded by those she most loved and been snuggled and petted all day by them, so I had her put to sleep.
Despite having bought the house for her, she was just too big for me to bury (the ground here is hard and full of rocks) so she is being cremated. This means that I couldn't bring her back for the little guys to see that she had died, she was too big to carry as a dead weight. So not only has Zoltan disappeared with no answers, now they have lost Spooky too.
Anyway here are some pix of my beloved Spooky.
that was one of the most recent pix, her and Ma at this years Million Paws Walk in May.
This pic is a couple of years back, licking her lips in her bed after I just gave her something yummy
and finally it wouldn't be complete if I didn't include one with a ferret. Spooky always thought the best days were the days when a new ferret arrived. This pic is quite a few years back (and a few ferrets back). Her and our beloved Slubber (who she absolutely loved to play with). Sorry for the quality but it is pre digital days and taken with a polaroid.
RIP my beautiful girl and thank you for taking such good care of me all these years.
