Mimi's toenail looks like it's pulled out a little. I don't know how it would have happened unless it was that way when we got her. It doesn't seem to bother her at all unless I go to clip it. Has anyone else had this kind of thing happen? Is it a serious issue? Can anything be done about it and if so will it cause her pain to have it done?
Sorry for the crap picture. And the noob questions.

This is no noob question. That looks very painful and will catch on bedding and possibly floor coverings. What I can't tell by the picture is if the toe is damaged or not? If the toe appears damaged I would be taking the little one to the vet. If I was feeling even a bit uncomfortable I would take this little one to the vet. That's just me. ciao

That does indeed look painful. I'm with Heather on this, if there is anything wrong with the toe I'd take her to a vet.
I'll be praying for your little one to get better

I'd be getting her there as well. I can well imagine it's uncomfortable to have that clipped, poor baby!

OUCH that hurts to look at. A vet can get it the rest of the way out and give her some antibiotics and pain meds. If it sits like that it won't heal on its own, just get more painful and infected. I see it alot with dogs at the hospital where I work.

So I should have it pulled? Everything looks fine except it's pulled out. There's no swelling or redness. She walks fine. The only problem we have with it is she wiggles when we clip it.

I think it should likely be removed, yes. If it gets caught on something, it's going to tear out more, and could wind up being infected. Besides winding up awfully painful from that. Consider it a preventative.

Will the vet put her to sleep or numb the area or anything? I really don't want her to be in pain.

I don't know. I know with our dog who badly broke her dew claw, they didn't, mainly because it was just hanging. With that, though, it depends on whether or not the actual toe itself is involved. Odds are she'd get a "bump" sedation to have it removed. That's where they just give them enough anesthetic to put them under, and pull them right back out again. Minimal risk. But it really should be seen to in order to prevent more damage from occuring. It's not an emergency, but call your vet and talk to them.

Since she's about four to six months(just guessing) is there much risk in sedation? If she'll die during the process I would rather it stay. Am I just being overly cautious?
Unrelated but is she still a kit at this age?

Hard to tell from the picture. What does she do when you apply pressure to it? Is there a new nail growing underneath it? If it is hanging off like you say, and if there is a new one growing, then cut the nail below the quick and it might just come right off. Give her linatone or wait until she is asleep.

Yes, she is still a kit, and no, there shouldn't be a problem. Sinnead is a 7 year old adrenal ferret. She's had bump sedation on a few occasions for blood work. She won't hold still and let them do it ;D Don't get me wrong- there is a risk with ANY sedation, for any species. That said, if you leave that toenail the way it is right now, it's going to likely cause her problems in the future. Better to have it taken care of now than let it get caught in something, and have her wind up with a broken toe from it.

I don't know. I enlarged the picture on my computer and that looks kind of funky. If you are in doubt, take her to the vet. How in the heck did that happen anyway?

miamiferret2: She squirms when we squeeze it. No new nail. We have no clue. I was snuggling her a couple weeks after we got her and it was like that. We had them in a ferret cage with no hammocks and only one shelf. There was nothing she could get hung on. And they were only allowed out time on the bed. I'm thinking it might have been that way when we got her. @sherry: Then I'll have to get it pulled. Thank you for your help.
