I'd try cutting back on the pain meds. If they are sedating him too much, he won't want to do anything other than sleep.

He only eats freeze dried dry. He won't touch it wet. Looks at me like I'm crazy. He was eager enough when hand fed, I think the meds just have him too knocked out other than to potty, and decreased his appetite. Shane had surgery (broken knee) years ago and he said that the pain meds do decrease appetite quite a bit. Depending on how Koda does tonight I may skip a dose entirely or may just give him a partial dose. It IS good for him to rest, and I have a 4 day weekend so I can hand feed him for now if needed, but I def want him eating on his own!

If he's on the. Buprenorphrine 3x a day, try just once or twice. You'll know if he needs more.

He's on it twice a day but they said I can give it 3x if I think he needs it. He seems to be much more alert now but he's still pretty slowed down. He ate more out of the spoon (about one spoonful) and tried to steal the spoon. I let him take the spoon into the cage (right into the litter box - where he wanted to go lol) but then he wouldn't eat the food in the cage on his own. He wanted to explore a little but I didn't want him to go far or strain himself so I let him wander around on the bed for a minute and then put him away. He went right back to sleep. Poor baby. His stomach is starting to bruise and I think it's definitely sore. He was making a few grunting noises after eating when he was moving around. He really didn't like me touching the bruised area either. Not that I was pushing on it or anything, just gently ran my finger down it to check for swelling, or bumpiness (the texture of the bruise almost looks like a rash - it was smooth though, just uneven coloring).

Not too surprising if he's having pain. And although he's only 3, he's still going to take a bit longer to heal than he did for the first surgery. Frankly right now, I'd just keep hand feeding as long as he's willing to take it. Try cutting back to maybe half doses on the pain meds and see how he does. As you know however- if he's having a bit too much in meds- he'll sleep. If he's having too much pain- he'll sleep

I know Sherry, balancing the pain and pain meds will be tricky. They only gave me 2 days' worth though! I might go back and get more (preferably some non-narcotic ones) depending on how he is doing. Sorry for the lack of pictures today guys. I have been in recovery mode myself - I'm exhausted! Then I have family in town too. My mom took me to get my hair done (yaay for mom's!), which was a nice little happy-fun thing after such a long and devastating 2 days. Feels nice to look human again. lol Anyways, I will upload pics and a good long update in just a bit I promise!

I'm glad he's doing ok. Did you see what was removed? It could be yarn.fabric from a hammy or something. Hard to imagine him getting hold of a stuffed toy you don't even have in the house??

I'm glad he's doing ok. Did you see what was removed? It could be yarn.fabric from a hammy or something. Hard to imagine him getting hold of a stuffed toy you don't even have in the house?? Yes, I took pictures. Just haven't had time to upload them yet since I have had family in town. It actually looks like a draw string! At first I was SO confused, because I don't have ANY clothes that look like this draw string. I was stumped. Then yesterday it dawned on me that I do have a shirt that is a halter top. I can't find the shirt! (Hmmmm..... ) I think it's in Shane's laundry, and we've been at my house. I should be going to Shane's sometime tomorrow and I can do a hunt for the shirt to see if it's missing a halter-tie. If that's not it, then Koda's a magician - only other possibility! Koda is doing okay today. The meds still have him totally zonked out. I gave him a half dose this morning, but a little while later he seemed really uncomfortable so I gave him the rest of the dose. Which of course then knocked him out entirely again. He eats, but only when I wake him up and hand feed him. Otherwise he only sleeps and potties. I called the vet and tomorrow I am going to pick up some Tramadol to see if that will work better for him. Fingers crossed! More pictures to come after I finish my Miami application essay. IT was supposed to be done but thanks to Koda.... lol

It took us almost two years to finally figure out where Lucrezia got the foam that caused her blockage. Turned out it was likely the underlay for the carpet. Same colour as she pooped out. So- even if your top isn't missing a draw string, you'll figure it out sooner or later!

Koda was feeling pretty spunky last night. He dug his way under the floor tray on the top level of the FN until I finally relented and put him in the bottom level with Kenai for a few minutes. He knew exactly what he wanted. He went and pooped in his normal litter box, then ate Kenai's pork out of his normal feeding den. Then he curled up in "HIS" bed and went to sleep, so I moved him back up to his own level. This morning he did the same thing. I let him walk around a little to stretch out since he was begging for attention. He went to the cage and started clawing at the lower level doors. I let him in and he did the same little routine. Directly to his litter box, then the food den. We made a quick run to get his new meds and some coffee for Shane and I, and by the time we came back the spunk was gone and he was ready for his next round of pain meds and a nap. Poor baby. I'm glad he's back to sleeping though. The main reason I wanted some non-narcotics is because Tues I got back to work and I need him to be able to wake up and feed himself. I do appreciate him sleeping so much though so he can heal up. <3

Oh boy. So have to add - Tramadol apparently tastes like s**t to them. Poor Koda went nuts when I gave it to him. I had to scramble to grab the Ferretvite and it even took convincing to get him to lick that with the taste still in his mouth. He dug in the litter box newspaper, and then lay half in it with his head under the paper like he was dying. Little drama queen! The buprenorphine didn't taste that bad so I didn't think to pre-coat the meds with ferretvite. Oops - sorry Koda!

Koda is having a reaction to the tramadol. He just threw up all over.
