If only they were UTD on their shots, you could get them across the border and we could meet somewhere to pick them up. We're transition to raw diet here. Assuming they could get along with Stormy. Though I will say, for 2 ferrets raw is probably still cheaper than high end kibble, especially in Canada. Maybe not for the 7 I currently have. I won't know my own food costs for a few months yet until appetites stabilize, etc.

i can't even imagine not having them anymore, but right now im not in the situation to be able to have them, and my parents are getting fed up with having to pay for their food and what not, and they just brought it up yesterday, and i have a horse who will come first for me. as bad as that sounds, i went into buying him, knowing i would have to pay for him, and now my parents are saying i have to take care of the ferrets and i just can't afford that ontop of my horse bills I'm sorry but this just breaks my heart. You chose to get ferrets. No one forced them upon you. The ferrets should be just as important as your horse. I know what it is to be a teenager and own ferrets. I was 16, living on my own. No one helped me pay for them. This is really a perfect example of why children, who are not self sufficient, shouldn't get pets. I hope you can find a home for your babies because they deserve someone who won't "grow out of them." I hope you learn from this and maybe think harder next time you buy an animal.

um, excuse me. wow i didn't think this place used to be so rude. i remember this other person who found ferrets weren't her animal and no one was rude and insulting to her. which is what im finding now. im sorry i can't be around 3 hours a day to watch them, because i work 2 jobs, have lots of other bills to pay for. but no, im not sorry. i have other things to consider, the reason why horses are more important to me then my ferrets have nothing to do with you people, and if any of you were in my shoes maybe just maybe you might understand, but i highly doubt that
AND MY PARENTS DO NOT WANT THEM AROUND ANY MORE I AM NOT GOING TO BUY A HOUSE JUST TO KEEP MY FERRETS.
i do not want to get rid of my ferrets and i have been trying everything not to have to, but i have no time for them, and none of you seem to understand so if you have nothing nice or helpful to say stay off my thread.

Look, it's very sad when animals have to be rehomed. A lot of us see it as a huge breach in commitment and responsibility.
It's a sad fact of life, ferrets are often rehomed. They are NOT the perfect pet for a lot of people. Infact, I would go so far as to say they are not the perfect pet for most people. When people talk about wanting ferrets I usually try my best to discourage them.
Horse, you are in an unfortunate situation. A harsh fact of life, despite how cute and playful ferrets are... the work and expense has warn out their welcome in your home. I'm glad enough to see you are not pursuing CL or others like that as your first choice. Ferrets adopted off of those sites do not always go to happy homes.
But please keep in mind, how often the users here see ferrets needing homes. 'The kids don't take care of them', 'I don't have time', and your 'I grew out of them'. To a lot of the people here, ferrets are a lifetime commitment. And it is painful to see when this is not the case in other households. Please be understanding that we see this ALL THE TIME. It wears down on our emotions too. Who wants to hear about abusive situations that the animal you love so dearly is often disposed of.
I'm SURE you feel the same when you see horses treated in such manner, and unfortunately they do. Too many people get horses that cannot afford their care, or simply use them for work with little concern over their health. How many end up in dog food? Wouldn't you get frustrated over the seemingly countless people that say 'It's too expensive' when asked why they cannot give their horse proper care?
I am NOT saying you have not taken care of your ferrets, obviously you did care enough at one point in time to feed them raw. That is an expensive commitment to their health. And I can see you still care enough about them to want them to go to a truely good home.
What's most important right now is... the ferrets have warn out their welcome, for better or worse. Both sides need to be patient and help each other so that the two ferrets in question find solid homes.
And... if you can learn from this experience, Horse656, then it's not a total loss.

its not so much that i have grown out of them, i still very much love them, but with two jobs, and many other commitments i just don't have time. i used grown out as sort of everything description. i do not want to have to rehome them, but i have to, my parents said they no longer want them in the house, and i can't really keep them with my parents not wanting them here. i love them to death, but i just can't keep them because of my parents. and im not as young as you people probably think i am.

I know what it is like not to have time. But they do not require much at all. Esp if they have eachother. i was in college full time, working full time at a law firm AND part time at a restaurant. I went to law school (which is grueling and long- law school is NOT like college it is like boot camp), i had to quit my job for law school because i could not work due to being in school over 12 hours a day. So then i was BROKE. My ferrets ate kibble. i did not have alot of time for them. but i never gave them away. Do you have other pets in your house? Dogs? Cats? Why arent they being given away? The smell?

Anyway, just so you know i have been cross posting your thread on the facebook groups. I AM trying to help you. But #1) the raw thing is prob not going to happen, #2) the $300 rehoming fee prob not going to happen (i am glad you are considering waiving that entirely).

Is there a rescue near you? A ferret rescue? Just so you can avoid craigslist. I am speaking with my friend from ontario to see if he knows anyone else who will take them.

There used to be the equivilent to Ferret Aid in Ottawa. They were huge, go to them. If they can they will help you out. Offer them some money to take in your wee ones. Let them handle the details. They will hopefully find them a good forever home. This is heartbreaking to say the least, as with another poster who needed a home for their ferrets in Toronto....I wish I could help, I just don't have the space or the money to take on another pair I wish your wee ones luck, I really do. This is not a good time to be looking for new homes ciao

This is really a perfect example of why children, who are not self sufficient, shouldn't get pets. Exactly. This type of situation is the reason why I won't sell a ferret to anyone who still lives with their parents unless the parents also want the ferret and are willing to take over the ferret's care when the child moves on to other interests. And age is not an indication of maturity, as both Jackie and Miamiferret have illustrated.

um, excuse me. wow i didn't think this place used to be so rude. i remember this other person who found ferrets weren't her animal and no one was rude and insulting to her. which is what im finding now. If you're referring to Allie, the situation was quite a bit different. She was fostering, not buying ferrets. You've had ferrets since, what, 2007? It doesn't take 5 years to realize a pet isn't for you.

Well the fact remains that they need a home and here is best to post such a thing instead of craigslist. Lets try to have some tact. I know it is a sensitive topic and sometimes people say things that tic you off or whatever but what is important is what is best for those little ones that have no say in thier fate. Ganging up on people and judging the situation or person does not help anyone or any ferret.
If I come across anyone in your area that can help I will suggest your little ones, Horse 656. Best of luck to your fuzzies!
