My kids generally love going out on their harnesses, but I learned with the boys that we need to stick to the nature walks...if I get them out on the beach they freak out and try to run back to the car or up my leg in a panic. I'm thinking it has to do with the wide open spaces and them feeling too exposed. Anywho, yesterday was really nice in that cloudy but actually warm out sort of way so a friend and I went to the beach, but I thought I'd also give Akiko a chance to show me if she's braver than the boys. Turns out she's a great beach ferret, we covered over 3 miles! She's also a h*ll of a climber...the beach I go to is flanked by clay cliffs (leftovers from when the glaciers receded during the last ice age) and she was scaling some near-vertical faces. Pics are from my cell so not the greatest quality, but still fun to share Strike a pose! What are these?? Barnacles don't smell so great... What's up here? And what's over there?? Are you really telling me to hold still? Climbing the waterfall I must go higher! Coming down The perkiest tail ever!

Thanks everyone! I like to think all my kids are good climbers since I find them on top of everything, but Akiko really showed off out there. Granted, if she had a fat belly like the boys do I think she'd have a harder time pulling herself up ;D

BEAUTIFUL pics of Akiko, Hannah! I'm envious that you have a lovely DEW. It's one of my favorite colors. I can't wait to take Teddy to the beach here, too. Isn't it great that we share such gorgeous coasts?! Talk about a must-have ferret playdate!!!!!

It's true, if I ever head south or you come north, I think it'd be a good time! My favorite beaches are along the Oregon coast (especially the Seaside/Cannon Beach area) because they're so epic and sandy...here on the Sound they're very rocky and full of barnacles so I can't go barefoot most places but even so, I love having the option to drive 15 minutes and smell the salt air. I've lived other places, but for me the Northwest is definitely the best

I want to see more of the Washington coast, we usually go the OR coast route, and we got married in Pacific City, Cape Kiwanda area, so that's the beach we go to the most. Also Gleneden Beach (GORGEOUS spot), and pretty much anywhere in Newport and Lincoln City is breathtaking.
Either way, we'll have to have a bite to eat and take the fuzzies out to play in the sand. When we go to the WA coast maybe you could show us a great local spot to eat! I'm always looking for great local eateries that have some vegetarian food like pasta, ethnic foods, etc. We're still trying out places on the OR coast, outside of that in the Portland area there's a GREAT asian restaurant called Bay Leaf if you're ever here. It's wonderful if you like Chinese, Thai, and elegant tea service. And not expensive, either.
