As many of you know, I'd pretty much had Ligeia switched to commercial raw. I used the same one as I use for the ferrets, Essentials turkey. She loved it and did really well. So I grabbed a small bag of NV chicken. Which she also did well with. So I picked up the larger one of Essentials chicken(only difference between the chicken and turkey ingredients WAS the chicken or turkey) and she promptly vomited the whole thing back up again. She does NOT eat too fast as she's very much a "Miss Priss". After this happened two or three times in a row, I removed the essentials chicken and gave her just the turkey. Which she now vomits every time she eats it. For now, she's back on canned. I did try her with about 1/2 ounce of the turkey the other day, but again she immediately vomited it back up again. Do any of our raw feeders with cats have ANY idea what's happening?

I honestly don't know yet. I was going to pick up one of those sample packs from Nature's variety, but it's beef. I'm guessing we'll know if it's a poultry problem if she can handle that. I was just confused because she'd done so well on the turkey, and on the NV chicken for about 2-3 weeks.

Just that once with the 1/2 oz of turkey, which she also vomited.

You're right...it's odd. Did you buy the food at the same place? Samurai was terribly sensitive to food that was even slightly off. At one time the place where I get the commercial raw had their freezers set too low (people opening and closing the door meant the food was thawing and freezing) During that time Samurai had problems with their food and actually went back on Evo (before it became a bad food to feed) I then went about re-introducing my own grinds (because he was puking that too) like I would be doing the whole switch again. Now it went faster because I only had to watch to make sure he wasn't puking, it had nothing to do with him not wanting it. At that point I discovered that he could also stomach rabbit (he stole some of Meeteefs). ciao

Hmm, is there anything else in there besides meat products? She could just be having a sensitive stomach and need a break, when I switched my cat I just slowly backed off how many days/meals of canned and increased the raw. She had problems if I gave too much heart/liver (too rich?) and she'd often puke up mice for eating too fast, and sometimes chicken leg pieces, that weird muscle/tendon part would come back up. We are over a year now and seems like other than an occasional small hairball she rarely pukes.
I know on the cat forum people are big fans of probiotics, but I've never used them myself, seem I have the rare cat who adores raw and jumped right now with little issues. I think if I ever get another cat I'm going to bring a plate of chicken to the pound and see who dives in lol!

They are usually really good with their product, but I suppose it's possible. The problem is I don't have a grinder to make my own. Too bloody expensive! As for other content goingpostal, it has a minor amount of veg, less than the 5% NV has.

I don't have a grinder either....yes...way too expensive. I suppose I could look at it as an investment. Are you on canadianrawpetsupply@yahoogroups.com? They have a huge number of suppliers in your area. You could probably get the grind you're looking for. All I do is order the ground meat from them and then make my own mix as I need it. I use the ground chicken necks as bone and then add all the other ingredients to make up the recipe. This week the guys are eating fish, they got rabbit last week. This way I'm in total control as to what they're getting. ciao

No, I'm not! I was looking for a raw supply group for Canada on yahoo, but that one didn't come up for me. Only ones I found were US based ones, with a very few Canadian members on it.

If it's just grinding enough for Ligeia, it probably wouldn't be too much work to use a manual grinder for her meals and then freezing larger batches once you know what she'll tolerate. I picked mine up cheap at a Goodwill, and I see them at thrift shops and garage sales all the time for $5-15. Mine's an old cast iron one and it does chicken/duck/anything smaller fine, though the thicker bones are easier with a couple whacks from a cleaver first. I switched my kitties to raw when I switched the ferrets and I've never experienced vomiting issues, but I've also never tried commercial raw so it very well could be something in their grind that changed or was mishandled at some point, especially if she was fine with it at first. My cats get the same mix the ferrets do...meats, bones, organs with some squash/pumpkin thrown in for good measure, and occasionally if I have extra spinach lying around, I'll freeze it and process it into the squash mix. The cats in particular seem to eat a more vigorously when I add the spinach, I think they enjoy the little bit of green flavor since they also enjoy chewing on grass...I know freezing and throwing it through my food processor helps break down the cell walls, but I don't know how freezing affects the vitamin/enzyme content. I sure hope you can find something that keeps her belly happy!

Well, we're going to try the lamb this morning, see how she does with that. She really misses her raw in the mornings especially. It's a different brand, as well.
