Hello Everyone, In conversing with a volunteer at the Ferret Aid Shelter in Missisauga, Ontario about another thread of mine (http://holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=8172) . It has come to my attention that they are currently unable to bring in any new ferrets due to the fact that they are currently full and are very short on funds currently. In fact all needed vet visits are on hold until they can get more donations. They just had an Adoptathon last Saturday and will be holding another one next Month. They hopefully have placed 2 or 3 of their ferrets from last Saturdays event but they are still in need of assistance. If you are in the GTA area and were planning to add another fuzzbut to your family I'd suggest giving them a call. If you know of someone who is considering a ferret in the GTA area please direct them to the shelter. Also, if anyone can spare some cash you can donate on their site: ferretaid.org/v4/BTW: I am not affiliated with Ferret Aid in any way other than that is where I adopted my girls

Oh no, I'm low on funds atm or I would donate. I also really wanted to adopt their big albino boy they just got, but with buying furniture, and shipping Rolo and rent etc. I have no money till september. If he is still at the shelter come september & I've paid tuition etc. and got the cats settled I will probably look into it though.

I'm so sorry to hear that they're in that much trouble. They've always, like most shelters, walked the fine line. It's so hard to get money these days for shelters. I hope that they're able to place some of their little ones. This is so sad. Randy works so hard to help the little ones ciao

Yeah, if you check out their site there is even an adrenal ferret that they haven't been able to really help out. She got her first Lupron shot but they haven't been able to afford any follow-up shots. So sad.... They have quite a few fuzzies currently that I'd take in a second if I could afford to put more cash into my ferret emergancy fund but I just can't risk adopting any more due to the eventaul issues most ferrets get and my current cash flow.

As much as you want to help, that is a sound conclusion on your part. Is there any moneys in the ferret donation pot for shelters? I'm sure it wouldn't be much but it might buy a lupron or DES shot for a little one? ciao

Hello Everyone, Another thread has brought my attention to this contest: www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3It is not a conflict with the other members request as that shelter is in the U.S. while Ferret Aid is in Canada. When searching for Ferret Aid please enter the search information as The Ferret Aid Society - Canada - Ontario - Mississauga. IMPORTANT: You can vote EVERYDAY! If you have a Facebook account could you please copy and past the text below and add it to your account? "The Ferret Aid Society is currently struggling and in desperate need of funds. They are also totally full for rescues so if you are interested in getting a Ferret, please adopt!! You can either donate on their site at ferretaid.org/v4/ or vote for them in this contest: www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3 Please make sure to input the search criteria as follows: The Ferret Aid Society - Canada - Ontario - Mississauga and vote EVERYDAY!"

bitbyter, do you happen to know how easy it is to drive ferrets across the border into the USA? I saw a few on your website I liked but I don't know how feasible it is to take them across borders. I assume they need at least a rabies vac etc.

I'm 100% sure but I believe that you can bring them across the boarder as long as they have had their rabies vacinations. I'm sure someone here will be able to confirm that. You might want to inquire with Ferret Aid as well (they may not want to rehome so far from the shelter but I doubt it would be an issue).
Sherry, you should be able to vote for Ferret Aid as well. From the wording on the contest site, Canadian shelters are only eligeble for a $1000 prize (and there are several of them) while the prizes for U.S. shelters are much higher. Therefore I believe that U.S. and Canadian vote totals are seperate.

You know another way people can help out is by doing a small monthly automatic donation. I started a couple years ago. I use to send in a donation once a year,Ferret-Aid then asked me if I wanted to do a monthly donation of 10$ a month instead. It works great for me,I sent them a void cheque and the payment comes out at a set date and I save the cost of a cheque, stamp and envelope. Plus they like the idea of having a quarenteed set amount each month.
