Hey guys just a quick question, my boyfriend gave my 8 week old ferret some watered down cows milk as he didnt realise they are lactose intolerant. consequently she has been really sleepy today and has had a bit of Diarrhea. Will she recover naturally now that i have removed the milk and given her plain water or is there any extra things i need to do/vet checks etc, bit worried, thanks .

She should be fine, as long as the diarrhea has stopped. At that age, especially if she's kibble fed, diarrhea for even a day can dehydrate them very quickly. Why not pick up some goat's milk? She could have a tsp of that a day with no problem.

she wont eat the ferret nuggets i got for her (i perhaps thought shes still a bit young for hard dry food), the only thing she eats is chicken and she has plenty of water in her cage. will keep an eye on her .

If she'll eat chicken, why not get her going on a proper raw diet? We'll help you make sure it's balanced for her. It's generally 8-9 consumable bone meals a week, 3-4 muscle meals(at least one of which has to be heart), and 1 meal of approx 2 oz liver/2oz other organ. This thread explains what is meant by meat/bone/organ: holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=meat&action=display&thread=146

ok great thanks, i wanted to go down the raw route anyway, i have chicken and liver atm and shes nibbled the liver today so i think she liked it , just need to get some heart. What sort of liver/hearts would be best?

Any kind, really. Unless a meat is altered somehow(salted, smoked, etc) they can eat it. Check out the diet archives of completed switches. The menus are generally on the last page.

ok thanks, shes been asleep most of the day but has eaten a bit, her eyes are still pretty squinty though and she was trembling earlier and snapped at me so i think im gonna pop her to the vets in the morning just to make sure shes not dehydrated, poor baby .

One thing to remember too, if you're feeding just raw meat, she's going to need some bone, egg shell or bone meal or you're going to have really loose stools again. You need 1/2 tsp of powdered egg shell to 8 oz of meat ciao

You have to remember, unless she's a breeder's fuzz chances are she's no real idea that meat is food. She will have to be taught. Once she gets the idea though....look out. They turn into furry tummies with teeth. I've watched them tuck into double the amounts that adult ferrets eat ciao
