The danger is them trying to eat it. Enclosed in cloth it's fine Just keep checking the toy with the bags for signs of wear

Make sure your dryer duct that you're getting is a plastic one. If at all possible, try getting those black collapsing tubes for plumbing. They are made out of plastic instead of the aluminum. We gave our babies aluminum ones once and they started digging at the wires on the inside of them. Eventually it became too risky to let them play with it because we worried they would cut themselves open. We went and got the 12' black tubes and have never had issues. They even lock onto each other without any kind of special ends, so that makes for more fun when you can combine 4 of them together. The ferrets try to break them apart just so it doesn't go on forever ;D

I have a couple of the aluminum flexible ones, and my kids have behaved with them. But I only paid $1 for it at goodwill so I wasn't worried about tossing it if it was a bust. YMMV

I use the clear plastic tubing(only lasts a few months), aluminum dryer tubing(lasts a couple months), and the black drainage tubing.

I made some crinkly toys with tassels of fleece hanging off; super cute, too, and easy!
I'll keep that in mind about the aluminum tubes! Does anyone use PVC piping for tunnels as opposed to big giant dryer ducts?

I do I also use the plastic bottles that are suggested in the enrichment section, some of the clear coloured tubes as well. I did discover that the 'bino twins think that it's for running along the top instead of inside . I think I'm going to create a tree made of the tubing for the hobs to play outdoors with. I've got a couple of tree limbs for them to run along too, to work their balance. ciao

Strangely, I bought a basket for magazines and newspapers from World Market, but the fuzzies turned out to absolutely love the weave and texture to climb and scratch their backs and bellies on. It's seagrass V-weave, so it's open enough to step up on and coarse enough for the thick winter coat itchy-scratchies.

For a toy/stuffy for them to carry around and wrestle with, what about knotting up old socks or dish cloths? Assuming they don't chew it.

You do have to know your ferret. If you have a little devil like, katt 's Koda, then hardly anything is safe. lol. Take a look at Derby eggs, they are very popular with ferret's and can be found on ETSY and I believe we have a link to the pattern for them. If you're interested, type in Holistic Ferret Forum derby eggs on your browser window and some links should pop up.

Hey- even my deafies ADORE Karen's Derby eggs. Ask for the ones made with pasta, NOT pony beads. And yes it does make a difference even though you can't wash those ones

Instead of plastic grocery bags, I've opted for cereal bags. You know, the ones inside the box. They're thicker (I have a bag-chewer and she is perplexed by these!) and crinkle more loudly than any other bag I've come across. At some point I had 5 of them and left 3 on the floor, then made proper toys out of the others. What I did is cut the bag into two squares and layered them together, then sewed two pieces of fleece over that, forming a crinkle mat. In a few days, they got bored, and so I rolled the mat into a little tube, attached, and now they love rolling in it and wrestling with it. EDIT: And just now, I notice I'm late to the party.

It's an ongoing thread. That's an awesome idea - I wish I was better at sewing!

I got some good ideas from this thread. Something that I found hilarious was tying a feather and a little jingle bell to the end of a piece of string about 2 feet long, then tying it to the fastest ferrets harness. When she takes off the feather and bell drives the others nuts and they run through the house chasing each other.

Mine would just turn around and eat it though. lol I think we need a video of this toy in action.... :angrymob:
