That's wonderful!!! Go girlies! How did you feed the lung? Was it in small pieces? I would start increasing the size, just a bit. See it they continue to eat as they are

I cut it into larger chunks and they ate it all including the heart. I have some bad news though.... I think Pippa may either be very irritated or have a prolapsed rectum It's not like super bright red but I noticed this a few days ago which is when it started. It is a little orange-y in color. I went out and bought some pumpkin right away, I didn't think to buy it earlier since I thought the bone meal would help out the irritation as well. This is the wrong week to be taking them to the vet, but if it gets worse I have no choice. I went out as per reading from other forums, and bought some Prep H type cream, I think it's called Lanicane or something of the sort and Hydro-Cortisone to soothe it. I don't think it is a bacterial infection since she has been having diarrhea for the past few days, I assumed it was okay since it was from the organs I feel horrible. Hopefully it calms down! Pandora is also irritated but that's where it stops otherwise it looks good. I also put some cream on her bottom as well though just to be safe. I will also post this in the health section so I can get some responses. I will see the next few days before I see a vet. They will now be getting pumpkin with their meals. How much pumpkin should I be giving them with each meal?

I would be feeding 1/2 tsp per day to the fuzz.
For bum irritation, you can use sugar or honey. The sugar acts as an anti inflammatory.
When you apply anything to the bum, hold them for about 10 minutes (easier said than done). This allows the meds to take affect.
Just curious, is it only popped out right after pooping? Or does it goes back in after a bit?
For now, avoid organ and heart. Prolapse can be caused from too much or too little bone. Have the stools been dry (constipation) or wet?

Oh, Pandora's is normal and goes back in after pooping. Pippa's sticks out a little but it's not too bad. I'm assuming there was too little bone, since I have given them creams twice for both of them and after pooping and added 1/2 tsp of pumpkin to each bowl. Voila solution found. They are both looking almost 100% and they're both eating twice as much and using litter boxes. I have to go fill their food bowls up now! Oh and their poops have been very wet, I just thought it would adjust from bone. I will also start supplementing their bone with bone meal powder until they start eating more of it! I guess I found my answer I was so concerned that I'd have to do an emergency vet visit that I posted on the health forum as well so Sherry answered my concerns last night. Like I said they're doing fabulous, I think by tomorrow Pippa will be just fine! I'm going to run by the dollar store and grab some ice cube trays to freeze the pumpkin. I never knew how easy it was for them to get a prolapse but I guess you learn from your mistakes! I'm glad now I know what to look for and thank god that I noticed it really early on!

Jackie, The ferrets are eating just fine! Their poop is solid now, not too solid and I can see chunks of bone in it since I fed them duck feet with mince pork today. They ate over 4 oz each. Question regarding Pippa. Her poop is better, her rectum pokes out either right before she has to go poop and right after she does poop which I have been applying Hydrocortisone and tried sugar as well, it goes down right away and goes back to a normal color. Since it is day 1 I am assuming that her rectum is still irritated from all the previous days of not enough fiber. I should wash her bum with cool water tonight and then apply again. Is when I described to you like a normal thing? It's not a super bad prolapsed rectum. I tried poking it in a bit as per sherry's advice but I think it's making her too uncomfortable as she squirms when I do that. I don't want to irritate her more. ALSO... you said no organ and no heart for now... does that mean tomorrow I cannot feed them their Pork liver, even if their poop is solid from the pumpkin now?

Jackie, The ferrets are eating just fine! Their poop is solid now, not too solid and I can see chunks of bone in it since I fed them duck feet with mince pork today. They ate over 4 oz each. Yay! The bone in the stool will lessen as they learn to process it better Question regarding Pippa. Her poop is better, her rectum pokes out either right before she has to go poop and right after she does poop which I have been applying Hydrocortisone and tried sugar as well, it goes down right away and goes back to a normal color. I'm pretty sure that's normal. It could still be irritated, so I'd apply the cream/sugar for several days. Since it is day 1 I am assuming that her rectum is still irritated from all the previous days of not enough fiber. I should wash her bum with cool water tonight and then apply again. Is when I described to you like a normal thing? It's not a super bad prolapsed rectum. Just keep up what you're doing I tried poking it in a bit as per sherry's advice but I think it's making her too uncomfortable as she squirms when I do that. I don't want to irritate her more. If it's not bad, then I would just continue using creams to treat it. My Pixie had almost the SAME irritation. Rushed her to the vet, and they said it was just minor irritation, prescribed some med for bacterial overload. ALSO... you said no organ and no heart for now... does that mean tomorrow I cannot feed them their Pork liver, even if their poop is solid from the pumpkin now? I've never fed lung before - how does it usually affect their stools? As long as you add pumpkin and maybe some bone meal, should be fine Oh, and you asked before how to store pumpkin, I know it comes out funny after its frozen. What I do is add some water, and then heat the pumpkin up a lot, and reblend it in my blender. Seems to restore it back to a normal-ish consistency.

Nice! Thank you, you completely answered all my questions. The lung affects their stools the same way any other organ/heart affects them. I think as long as I give them pumpkin and as you said bone they'll be fine. Their appetites are up a lot and Pandora is VERY eager to eat! You have been so helpful to me thus far I made them a wicked feeding den today and posted pictures in the feeding dens thread... too bad they don't use it either lol.

No problem! I saw the den! I had to train my kids to use their den. And they still prefer to eat inside a tube or under the cage.

As for some bad news, last night my boyfriend checked out the turkey/duck I've been giving them and it turns out there was a cross contamination of some sort, which I still cannot for the life of me think of what it could've been caused by. I THINK it was from defrosting different meats like pork and turkey etc. in the same container in the fridge (in separate bags though). I definitely threw out all the turkey though because I have a feeling that the turkey contamination was from the turkey necks a few weeks ago. I didn't have them together but I had them in the fridge together for 2 days before I froze them even though they were wrapped I didn't realize that could have caused it. LUCKILY, the meat hadn't been too contaminated it was just starting to smell so I don't think it affected them, it definitely was not slimy or anything. God I need help with this raw meat handling thing lol I think he needs to supervise me now! Good news is that I went out and I bought turkey necks (that were already chopped! and duck wings since I'm all out now. Pippa's rectum looks 90% better and they're eating all of their meat no problems, even in bigger chunks now! I need to make a menu for this week which I will do now. I also bought some latex gloves so there is no chance of cross contamination and I froze the pumpkin into 1/2 tsp cubes Off to a good start this week.

Good news is that I went out and I bought turkey necks (that were already chopped! and duck wings since I'm all out now. Honestly, if they ate it, it was probably fine. Ferrets will snub bad meat. So I wouldn't worry about it. Yay! Pre-chopped neck?! AWESOME Pippa's rectum looks 90% better and they're eating all of their meat no problems, even in bigger chunks now! I need to make a menu for this week which I will do now. I also bought some latex gloves so there is no chance of cross That is wonderful! I think with some fiber and bone-in meals, it will heal on it's own. Just watch it for any inflammation or pokey-outey-ness.

I agree! As of right now, I am applying a sugar paste twice a day. Even if it seems okay, I will still continue for the next few days, you never know if it might come back! It's like an anti-biotic, even if you think you are cured, you need to take the full prescription. lol.
I was surprised they ate all their heart and beef today! Very very happy. I have also noticed Pandora looks bulkier. She is 6 months so I'm guessing she still has time left to grow? Do you know per chance if raw fed ferrets grow bigger despite genetics? I know most Marshalls ferrets are small but she is showing potential with her new eating habits!
So... Menu for next week.... EDITED***
Monday Turkey Neck Duck Wing
Tuesday
Pork Kidney **Pork Back** Pork Tail
Wednesday
Stewed Beef ** Pork Kidney & Pork Liver ** Duck Feet
Thursday
Beef Heart ** Mince Pork ** Turkey Wing
Friday
Minced Pork **Beef Heart** Turkey Neck
Saturday
Beef Liver **Turkey Neck** Stewed Beef
Sunday Pork Heart Duck Wing
I will see if I can pick up a larger variety of meat during the week! I would REALLY LOVE to pick up some goat, lamb etc! I will visit an indian grocery store with my boyfriend hopefully Tuesday and check it out!

I would add in another bone meal, and combine the liver and kidney into one meal (so cut each amount In half). So 8 bone in total, and 1/2 meal liver 1/2 meal kidney

lol oh my I didn't notice, I switched turkey wing to stewing beef with the beef heart and thats what took out my 8th bone meal! I was watching for that. As for the kidney & liver meal, would I do it into one day but still keep 2 oz of each? or do you mean cut it in half as in portion sizes in half? like only 1 oz of kidney and 1 oz of liver? (for this week of course)
