OH NO NO NO NO >.< I am not ready for another ferret!
BUT...... I just found out today that I'm moving into the pet friendly unit with my friend on July 1st, and I'm flying Rolo over July 3rd.......
He'd be here to do intros >.< and no risk of getting found out in my building anymore.... I could do it.....................
Omigod this is terrible. I will have to come visit the fuzzies though for sure! But I just cannot get another ferret yet >.<

Maybe those of us in the area can use this opportunity to all meet in person?

Was just checking out the Ferret Aid Website - anyone know if this is our boy that was found in the High Park area? ferretaid.org/v3/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=269&Itemid=76"Wilder" is an appropriate name If this is him I am so glad that he's doing better and on the right track getting socialized. EDIT: The more I look at his bio the more tempted I am to go see him IRL and find out what he's like/if he plays well with others..... he's also not neutered yet... anyone know if FAS would let me do a DES implant instead? The timing wasn't right for me to take him when I first saw the ad, but I'm in a better position now >.< Ughghghghghgh we will see. Also, as soon as I find out when/if I'm working I will probably post what time I aim to be at the adopt-a-thon if I'm not working. If we do meet up, are we allowed to promote Holistic Ferret w/cards or something? Would probably be good to let prospective ferrents learn about the forum

I believe this is the wee boy that was rescued. I will email and see if that's him. I don't know if they will allow a DES implant or not. I will ask. Possibly not because it does mean that the shelter has allowed an intact ferret out. I will ask. ciao

I just double checked my correspondence and that is the wee rescue that this forum assisted on. Wilder is our little rescue. It would be rather awesome if one of the membership actually adopted him. I emailed Noreen the question about the possibility of using DES on him instead of a surgical castration. ciao

Ok, Noreen just got back to me. A couple of things. They're not sure he's going to be at the adoptathon but....they will arrange to take you to Randy's house (just down the road) to see him if you want to (they can actually walk you down the street). He went to see the vet this week, the vet says he's a year old. The reason why he was at the vet was he was altered , so that's no longer an issue. He is a fully loaded poofer though. He has been intact for part of his first season so the chances of postponing adrenal to the point it doesn't matter is great. Thor, my one breeder's boy who was altered during his first season passed this year, at the age of 6. He died of lymphoma, he was a Waardenburg baby (very prone to cancers) but he adrenals were intact and clean. That being said, it will make him a friendlier ferret in the long run. According to Noreen, he's huge...bigger than any of the onsight ferrets. They've not been able to put him with anyone as of yet as he is in rut and he's not been out of season (because of surgery) long enough for his raging hormones to drop. He's gone from gloves on handling, to being a very active snuggle bear (very typical hob). Seemingly, he has his own fan club with the volunteers, so he must be a very special boy as they see a lot of ferrets over the years. If I wasn't already at my limit, I'd be looking to adopt this boy ;D It's just my soft spot for wee 'binos. ciao

Omigosh it seems I will really have to meet him to decide! And yeah it's super important that he will be able to get on well with Rolo, since he's my priority right now The date is pretty far off, so I think I will have to book off the morning to go meet him. Oh also, something else I'm just wondering - are people allowed to bring their ferrets? Do they need ADV tests and how would I go about arranging that? Though I'm assuming if he might not be at the adopt-a-thon then he may not be ready to meet Rolo anyhow. I usually prefer sables, but I don't know if I'd be able to pass up a big chunky 'bino Also, if he's a year old then that's not much of an age difference between him and Rolo so that's probably a good thing. Plus, Rolo's not much of a cuddle bug so it would be nice to have one that enjoys being held. Rolo is waaaaaaay too "go go go" to enjoy snuggling. He's 2 years old and still as hyper as ever lol, I hope he never slows down

I will see what they say about the ADV testing. I know it's their policy that all ferrets that come into their facility be ADV tested. I don't know what they're doing now that this particular test can no longer be done in the US and Guelph has closed down their exotic support ciao

I'm also curious because they require distemper & rabies vaccinations in the ferrets you bring to the shelter. Rolo's vaccinations (if they took) should be good for at least 3 years, but after that he will no longer be "up do date" because he cannot be vaccinated again. Rolo can't be the only ferret in this situation, so I'm assuming they waive the vaccination policy for ferrets in his situation?

Guelph Uni has closed down their exotic support? That SUCKS!! I took Sneakers there when she was passing due to Juvenile Lymphoma and the vet that saw us was awesome. Very knowledgeable and supportive. I use my uncle (he's a vet) for general stuff but I won't call him a ferret vet. I had always planned to head back to Guelph in case of emergency or if one of my fuzzies was in need of surgery.
Heather do you have any names / numbers of good ferret vets in the GTA? I'm in Hamilton but I can make the trip if in dire need. I never in a million years would have thought that a University specializing in vet programs would shut down it's exotic service.
On topic though...is anyone else planning on attending the adoptathon? I'm planning on going but I'd love to syncronize times so we could all meet in person. I'll be bringing my fuzzes as they were both adopted from Ferretaid so I doubt there will be a problem with me bringing them (I'll check with noreen first however).

bitbyterCollege Street Animal Hospitalis where I plan to take Rolo, but I haven't had a reason to visit yet so I don't know if they are any good. My vet back home in BC is amazing, but sadly that's not going to really work for obvious reasons. Also I am probably going to go- I need to book of the dates from work and will hopefully be finished moving/ buying furniture by then. Just managed to secure my new bed off craigslist for half the retail cost at Ikea woohoo! (Place I live in now is furnished, unit I'm moving to won't be.) I'm hoping to set up my room so that he can just live in my room 24/7 with me. My bed is a loft bed so he won't be able to bug me in the night. My sister told me she tried to sleep with him out in her bedroom at home, but he refuses to let her. He keeps trying to go into her pants and then will wake her up with kisses and then dance around and be all "plaaaaaay wiiiiiiith meeeeee".
