So tomorrow Remus and I (and his auntie Kelsey) are making the trek up to the GCFA to let him (hopefully) pick out a new friend to spend his cage time with. I just wanted to run through my plan and make sure I'm not missing anything.
Tonight:
Kelsey is staying over here tonight because I have a 12 hour shift and he needs his meds/to be fed. So tonight I'm going to add RR to his water so he is all chilled out tomorrow.
Tomorrow:
We are taking an extra carrier, ferretone, RR, his health records from the vet, his harness and lead, food, and water. Leaving here around 10, it is a four hour drive there, I believe the appointment is an hour, and a four hour drive back. I'm planning on dabbing some RR onto his ear about halfway there so it has time to sink in before we get there.
At the Shelter:
I am planning on keeping him on his lead while he meets other fuzz so I can pull him out if things go bad, unless anyone thinks that would effect how he interacts with them. I believe the shelter has a play pen where he can meet/interact with other fuzz.
On the way home the two will be kept in separate carriers to avoid breaking up a ferretfight on the highway. Once they're home I'm planning on pulling up the ramp on the FN for at least the first few days and just having them together for supervised playtime. Feeding will probably continue to be separate until they're both on chunks.
I know some bonding tips like giving them ferretone together (Jess mentioned putting the ferretone ON the fuzzbutts so they accidentally groom each other) or dabbing vanilla on each or doing a bath together. Hopefully all will go smoothly!
Am I missing anything important or is there anything else I should know?
