Ok, so I'm 'Neph', though, you can call me Mika if you wish(my real name -2 ending letters). I own 2 dogs(American Staffordshire and Toy American Eskimo Dog), 5 cats(1 Calico, 2 Russian Blues, 2 siamese[they're more of siamese printed tabbies, have the siamese markings with faint, hidden tabby lines]) 4 ferrets(2 sables, 1... he used to be a medium silver but lost all his silver hairs and is new like a DEW.. and 1 albino), 1 Leopard Gecko, 1 Bearded Dragon, 1 Malaysian Gecko, 1 Brazilian Rainbow Boa, and 1 Western Hognose snake. I'm 19, born December 14th, 1991. Live in Lexington, Kentucky, and I'm a semi known artist around town(not known by all, but known by maybe... 300 - 500 people in town?). I also sing. My mother was an opera singer, so I get it from her naturally. She actually had training for her opera singing, but she, sadly, can't afford the same for me... so I have to wing it! All my own! She admits that I'm better than she was at my age since I can -kinda- sing opera by my own accord(I've never had any form of training unless you consider typical middle school/high school choir to be training... but they never trained for opera). c: I also like very colorful things, which, by default, means I love the rainbow. <3 I'm also a retro style kind of person c: ... I like vintage things~ I'm generally very nice and I'm not easy to anger c: Also, I came from a Reptile forum, but me and a new member got to talking about our furbabies and said I should join here concerning switching my ferrets off Marshall's and onto a raw diet. For dry food, I plan on putting them on EVO since Marshall's isn't what I thought it was. Anywho, pics! We all need pics! And here's some art~ That last one was me and my boyfriend.~ c: Anywho, for singing, here's this. I was a little stressed when recording this, so I had a few 'hiccups', but I think I did decently.

Welcome! I can't wait to see pics of your babies! If you plan on switching to raw soon, I'd skip the Evo switch and go straight to raw

Welcome! I can't wait to see pics of your babies! If you plan on switching to raw soon, I'd skip the Evo switch and go straight to raw Well right now I'm on Marshall's and my reptile friend said it wasn't as good as I thought it was and showed me this chart of several ferret diets and I saw it was an Orange Tier item, so I just want to get them off of Marshall's and onto something grain-free and healthier. I sadly won't be able to switch to raw until I get my job, since buying things like mice, rats, etc. would cost too much at the moment. you may ask how I afford all my animals, then, with no job. Simple answer, my parents pay for them at the moment, but I think having four ferrets and feeding them all on raw would be the straw to break the camel's back, you know? So I'm going to wait until I can pay for it myself, but I -don't- want them to be on Marshall's the whole time. And thanks Sherry I'll be sure to join soon~ Got some things to do before hand.

Welcome! There are a lot of options where raw is concerned and this is the place to learn about it! If you check out feeding franken-prey style, depending on the types of stores in your area, you might be pleasantly surprised on cost. I actually spend less putting together raw meals using chicken, pork, beef, duck, turkey, etc by watching sales and going to ethnic markets than when I fed kibble...before I was spending $80 monthly on EVO for 2 cats and 4 ferrets, now I spend roughly $60-70 on 3 cats and 3 ferts. I figure $10 per animal per month is totally reasonable and even if it wasn't cheaper, the health benefits have been drastic and wonderful ;D.

Well let's seee... My cats eat Iams cat food, not all the expensive. Dogs eat Iams. Ferrets currently eat Marshall's but, as stated, I'll be switching to EVO for health reasons. Then there's my lizards' crickets and my snakes' mice. About $26 for a bag of EVO and a bag that size lasts them 3 - 4 weeks. Iams cat and dog food is maybearound $35 both for the month, for 3 months time, the snakes' cost is $40(they sell the mice in packs of 6, so it keeps one snake for 1.5 months and I've got two of 'em), and they spend roughly $5 - 8 a week on crickets since we've got three lizards. We'll just go with 5 and say $20 a month.
So monthly pet fee would be estimated around $100, maybe a little over. I'd expect my mother to insist on paying for, at least, the dog and cat food. I've tried paying for it before, and the one time I did pay for it, she got really mad 'cause she didn't get it for me. I'm still working with her to try and start a dubia roach colony for the lizards, since buying crickets really does pile up(she really doesn't want roaches in the house and crickets are hard to breed). I expect to at least be on my own for the reptiles and the ferrets. If I can get a roach colony going, it'd only be around... $46 a month without raw. Otherwise it'd be $66 without raw.
I know of a feed supplier in Ohio that will ship frozen bunnies down here for $14 dollars, but I feel feeding, at least, two bunbuns per week would shove alot onto that monthly bill. Maybe raw chicken with an occasional bunny as a treat?
