Soooo, when I got the weasels, my sick Dad was on the upswing and I thought I would have the time to now adopt and do right by them, bond, help them adjust, start their new raw diet, etc. Well, Dads health has not been what we had hoped and so I find myself with no real extra time and feeling very guilty bc I have no idea when this is all going to get better.
However, I have been investigating the cheater method of feeding raw, which for me, for now, and with only two to feed, will have to work. PLus the pic of all those organs posted on the FB page made me realize I am really not cut out for this.
So I was in the new fancy pet food store yesterday and to my delight I find something called RadCat raw diet. Free-range chicken. The ingredients are listed as:
chicken thigh and leg, chicken heart, chicken liver, water ( for processing) orgAnic egg yolk, bone meal, organic ground dried kelp, organic red algae ( dulse) , gelatin, organic ground psyllium husk, salmon oil, manganese gluconate.
It is frozen but totally mush and soup like.
Whadaya think? Too much organ for everyday? A good alternate for days when they require such?
Is there a mentor out there who can help me with strictly store bought raw till my life gets less complicated? This store carried the INstinct medallions but that was it for raw. There is another store on the north side of the city that I heard about and will go check to see what they offer, and I can order the rest online...if needed. I know I still need a scale, etc. But I was happy to find something with such varied ingredients for now.
They both are now eating a basic soup of pumpkin and beechnut chicken, which is a feat in itself bc Nibs was NOT all about anything soupie. They have also lapped up an egg yolk and seem interested in anything I make soupie, including a basic cooked chicken stew type thing I made in the slow cooker and beat to death. I add enzymes and I think that has helped both gain weight and Mimsy looks sooo much better but Nibsy may be a tiny bit of a chub. A sweet and friendly, cuddley, adorable chub.
