Hi Shedeivl, and welcome. I'm glad it looks like your ferret plans are coming together. And by the way, I didn't plan on getting a ferret until this fall and I've had my guy since May 17th...Once I got my supplies together I just couldn't wait! ;D

I'll look for photos, but i don't have any new photos of the munchkins. I'm not likely to breed this season, but if I do I should have some dark kits akin to the above hobs. that's ok I am just trying to get any idea of how much money I'll need to save wont be able to take them till late in 2013

Shedeivl, my guys are sold at 12 weeks for $100 each, as I get quite a bit of vet work done on them & parents before & during the breeding season. It doesn't cover costs, but does ensure people at least think seriously before buying those cute & fuzzy faces.

Wow, breeder ferrets for $100? That is such a difference from here in the US. Although vet care is more expensive so I have to take that into account. Here it's like $300+ for a breeder ferret.

There is also a very, very small market for breeder ferrets. All of mine are microchipped, are vet checked, parasite treated, have massive amounts of paperwork done & contracts signed before selling, raw fed, plus various other odd bits & ends that I find are required of a good breeder. Most of them have photos taken of their markings & teeth, though I will hopefully get some x-rays done of the older ferrets heads in the next few months as there's a problem with BEW/DEW ferrets in my area (& seems to have spread a little bit more North) & relations where their skulls & jaw don't form properly, literally ferrets with a half face. Not good, some that survive kit-hood have a terrible time eating proper food & generally need to be fed mash because they can't chew properly. I met a male a while ago & sometimes still see him, who's mouth is so twisted & badly formed, that I personally would've had him euthanaised a long time ago. He's nearly 4 & had a few teeth removed, & eats nothing but meat mashes because he's incapable of eating anything else. He's otherwise healthy & robust, very friendly guy too. His owner loves him though & had him neutered, so I guess it's not all bad as he does have a loving home.

It's mainly about desexing & that they are left until after their first season (I give a list of options to bring them out of heat with this) or to have them implanted. It's also got a return policy "should the adopter no longer be able to provide a home for the ferret, adequate care or simply no longer want the ferret for personal reasons, then contact to myself must be made & arrangements made for the ferrets return". I generally rehome ferrets that are brought back or they stay forever on, but I always insist, that they are returned to me & not rehomed by their adopter, as lot of paper work done on the ferrets & it's very hard to keep track of a ferret that changes hands & if I have details for the original adopter & try to get in contact with them to check in & find they no longer have the ferret & can't give me the required updates, then well, it really makes it hard for me as I have to do a lot of chasing. I had one lady do this with one of my girls last season, the new owner didn't really want the ferret but just wanted to help a friend out, so was happy to return her, but that kind of thing just makes life hard & I can't give any support to a new owner if they don't know how to get into contact with me either & run into problems. Also, just as I'm typing this, I'm watching some add for blenders & a guy just stuck an iPod & blended it to pulp

Also, yes, basically all you have to do is vaccinate & desex the critters. I'm looking at raising the price, though I'll give select few a discount, due to some idiots wanting to rent, try & buy (*cough* ruin *cough*) the ferrets I have available. That & folks already complain about $100 for a ferret, so figure $150 will stop that complaining.

aaaah. I would love one of your ferrets What kind of health history do they have? (And of course somebody would blend a iPod. Is it a older gentlemen with graying hair?)

Yeah, that's the guy. He also blended a rake handle & a plunger. I was like "Umm?"
As for health history, can't say I have a lot, as my own stock didn't come from the most prestigious backgrounds where all the paperwork was kept. I'm pretty much starting from scratch, which is why I'm up uptight about it. I just know there isn't any cases of skeletal issues, it's been Sable/Silver Mitt Sable for about 6 generations (okay, Mitts aren't greatest, but it's better than the DEW/BEWs here). No case of lymphoma on record or similar cancers, however adrenal & insulinoma I'm not too sure on, as the bloke who owns my original ferrets parents seemed a little missing on the causes. At the moment, with both there are at least some precautions to be taken against them, but I'm just going to take my lot in for blood tests once a year with their annual check up to be safe, cause I am freaking paranoid.

The guy also mentioned problems with dental disease, but I haven't seen any of that with my lot. His get whole chickens, rabbits, rats & mice, plus even the occassional dead snake (head cut off) & their normal kibble (kitten & puppy kibble), but I'm keeping a close eye on it all the same.
