I have used it on numerous occasions, however have had problems where it has apparently not been stored properly somewhere along the lines. I've opened new bags to find medallions all stuck together in one frozen lump. They are splitting the food between cat and dog versions. Dog versions will have a MUCH higher veg percentage. Cat will ONLY come in one pound packages. AND they have, for some STUPID reason, started adding honey to most of their products which makes it completely unacceptable for both cats and ferrets.

www.wag.com Also sells Nature's Variety (as well as Primal and Stella&Chewy) and you it is free shipping (at least in the US) and 5% off always. And shipping is most of the time is 2 days. My last order I order probably about 2-3pm on a Friday afternoon and it was at my door by midday on Saturday. I do have a local pet store that carries all of theses brands and sometimes are cheaper than wag.com....but don't always have them in stock when I need them...so you might want to double check on prices but if you don't have a local source than it is great!!

Maybe I can pass it off as kibble so my husband won't worry! Is it the same as raw? What one would provide them with everything they need? If I can switch them to this then after a while maybe I can sneak in some actual raw. I am very excited to find this section of the forums (dance) |

These are actually frozen medallions of meat  They look nothing like kibble, but like ground meat. For something like you are talking about you could always try freeze dried. Expensive, but it's raw. And you can serve rehydrated(preferred) or dry. Most who do freeze dried do two small wet meals a day and leave some dry out. |

I like how easy NV is to find ( i can get it discounted at work!) but the ferrets absolutely hate it and I wasnt too thrilled either. I know its raw but it just seems so processed, it doesnt look like meat anymore. I didnt mind the look if my gang would eat it but even after being all good with commercial grind, they would leave their plates barely touched. They would eat the chicken one if they were really hungry.

If the medallions are all frozen together in a clump, is it still ok to feed when thawed out and separated?

Yes,it is I just bang them on the counter while still frozen and they break up. What causes them to stick together is they will start to defrost a bit(and it doesn't take very long) then they are put into a freezer. |

I use this food for my dog. He does well on it, but my cat hates it. I like using this food because it is very easy to handle.
There are couple of issues though. It has been recalled just recently (due to salmonella contamination just like EVO) and the fact the they source their rabbit from China. I don't buy rabbit variety for this reason.

I have been offering the freeze dried raw now, for several reasons. Juliet insists on stashing everything, and I don't have to worry about bugs finding it first. I have a big need to offer treats, and the FDR lets me do that. They both really love FDR and eat it all. Also, I found duck hearts and Juliet has eaten them readily, and even little Mika (who is eating raw) will munch on them. I order from Amazon, and get free shipping. Mine are not frozen though, Is there a difference nutritionally?

I did not research scientific literature on this subject, but logically there is. It might be me minimal though. Still, it is better than kibble. If you do need some freeze dried treats I can recommenced Pure Snack (made in USA) treats for dogs www.puresnackstreat.com/ . I'm in Canada, and get the best price by far for these in WalMart. Jeepers loves freeze dried chicken breast, liver, and duck liver. You can also try K9 Natural Feline Natural freeze dried cat food. I used this for treats at the beginning, but now I feed it along with kibble. You can also try Orijen Freeze Dried dog food (very good variety of protein sources), but there are pieces of veggies sometimes, though pretty small. I feed this to my dog, and when reconstituting I found these pieces, before, I would just give a small piece to ferrets as treat. Now, I carefully check before feeding. There are also Orijen freeze dried treats in large variety of proteins, although the price is pretty high. |

The major difference is when you don't rehydrate you are essentially feeding a very high quality kibble. Because there is absolutely no difference as to the borderline dehydration all kibble fed ferrets suffer from.
