I'm guessing that this is a rodent He's cute...looks like a mix of a chinchilla and a rabbit....sorry, I'm not really good with these little pocket pets. He is adorable though ciao

Oh, he's a cutie I've seen degu's in the pet stores here, but with whole prey fed ferrets, not likely a good idea, since I can't provide separate areas

Mine are in the same room lol, but Jack is on a stand the ferrets can't climb and is completely surrounded with his cage. You have to put down a really tough clip to pen the cage. <3
He is like a little chinchilla basically. And the ferrets don't really care for him much nor does he for them.
=] I thought he would be stressed in the same room but he seems very fine. And the new cage will hopefully help.
He's my baby. Had him before the ferrets. Anywho...thanks for the comments!

Hmmmm....Degu.... how easy are they to breed? What is their relation to gerbils?

Dehus shouldn't be feeders. They can jump very high (escaping a bath tub would be easy), and they are extremely docile, so it would be cruel (in my opinion). They rarely ever bite, they are very social so they should not be kept alone.
My Jack is alone because I knew nothing about him when I got him....but after a year we tried to introduced him to a new male and it never worked out. Jack likes being alone, so we are buying him a bigger cage and we pay lots of attention to him.

He's so cute! Reminds me a big fat gerbil. How long do these guys typically live?

Oh and Katt, if I came off rude I totally wasn't meaning to be! I just don't agree with whole prey, but I know some of you do so that's your choice. I just would rather not contribute lol. And if it wasn't regarding feeding, then again sorry!! They can live up to 13 years under ideal circumstances but typically 6-8 years. My Jack is about 3 so far. The only bad thing is they need time out of their cage unless you have a verrrrry large cage, such as a double Critter Nation or a very large bird cage with many ramps. They chew like crazy though, more so than rats normally, so it's hard to find a cage because they can't have wire bottom cages, as it causes bumblefeet which is like a sore on their feet that normally doesn't go away. Actually, the wheel in my Jack's cage is not ideal for them either, but until I make him a wheel the steel wheels are around $25+ They also can't have certain wood cages as they are toxic. They are a pain to find things for lol

Degus can cuddle, but most are too excited to do so Whenever my Jack gets out he will climb on my shoulder and let me walk around...then randomly launch himself in the middle of the air, start running around kicking his back legs up, and his butt will be going everywhere... But he is definitely the sweetest rodent I've ever had and they looove to get their necks rubbed. They will turn their heads upside down and fall over just so you will get the right spot hahaha
