Just a heads up. Another wee ferret was turned in this morning to the TAS, Ferret Aid is in the process of attempting a blood draw for both their ADV tests, they will be taking both ferrets. Seemingly, the original wee one is a wild thing and can only be handled with gloves so they're having some problems getting a blood draw from her. One of the admins from FAS will be going in to do the draw if no ones able to. I will keep everyone posted as I get the information. ciao

Thanks for the update Heather! I'm just so happy they didn't euthanize that little biter out of hand as unadoptable.

My concern exactly...I gather she's a little wild thing. Even seasoned ferret people are having problems with her. She's going to need some serious rehab ciao

It makes me wonder how long she's been on her own, and what may have happened to her Combine that with the fact she's likely deaf, and obviously terrified...

Exactly. I know that when Odin got out on his ferrant, some teenage boys in the complex used him to bait a pit bull (I know they're sweet dogs but teasing a dog with a ferret brings out the worst in any dog) Luckily, for Odin some younger kids saw it and told the woman. She was in hysterics when she phoned me and told me to come get Odin that she couldn't take him breaking out any more. Some people can be horribly cruel ciao

Quick update. The wee girlie is so nasty that it looks like she will need to be taken to the vet to be sedated. She cannot be released until Friday but they will take her to the vet along with another and have her sedated so they can draw blood for her ADV test. She will then be placed in isolation until she's cleared at FAS. They will then start whatever program that is necessary to bring her around so that she can be handled. The second wee girlie that was handed in to TAS this morning was picked up by Toronto Wildlife Services to be relocated and released at a later date when she's old enough to be on her own....she's a mink ;D ciao

OMG!!! ;D So- the one who is evidently feral now IS a ferret, and the one who could be handled is a baby female mink? ?

Exactly. The mink was able to be handled without a problem...the ferret...not so much . Yes, she's a ferret, she's a DEW ciao

Really makes me wonder if someone "rescued" that little mink as a tiny baby then found out what she was!

It's possible...some people never tell the truth, but the mink is very young yet. Wildlife services is going to keep her until they think she can survive on her own. It's entirely possible that someone found the kit and thought they were rescuing a baby ferret or they thought it would be ok to try and raise a wild mink. They can be very forward when comfortable with people. The one down by the grocery store is very forward and has no problem with people. He's a large adult male and he's very bold (enough to beg for food from the guys eating their lunch on the picnic table at the back of the grocery store) ciao

Poor fuzzies. I hope the little mink is released far from humans. When people feed wild animals, they tend to get bit. Good job ladies. Praying for the angry fuzzy.

That's the weird part about this, is that the nice one was the mink! I would guess maybe whoever owned her got her from a fur farm? They are still not what I would consider domestic, yet they are not wild and don't have the instincts to survive on their own.

Hmm.. I saw this on craigslist as well. I was going to let them know to bring it to ferret aid society but I figured animal control would bring it to them anyways since they are the known ferret shelter in GTA.
