We have a 7 cu ft chest freezer for human and animal use. It's in the garage, and we tend to just toss in grocery bags of frozen stuff as we unload the car. Eventually I need to go out there and play a round of freezer tetris to really maximize the space. When it comes to ferret food, just be kind to yourself and label everything when it goes in!

Oh I do label everything! I didn't in the beginning (and it was a PITA), but I am very diligent about it now. I have a dedicated sharpie marker and freezer bags for fuzzy food and spend a good hour after any shopping trip to rebag everything and label it!

If you account for ferret math, always get a bigger freezer than the tiniest one you're tempted towards. We have a 80 lb. dog, two male cats, and a fuzzy now (once you start feeding raw it's like a collection of carnivorous animals begins, our next pup will come home around the end of this year or the beginning of next). So we have a 14.9 cubic footer. If you're buying new, go ENERGY STAR. It is worth every single penny because your electric bill will barely (if at all) register it. We got a Frigidaire from Lowe's, much better pricing than Home Depot. It holds more than 100 lbs, I haven't really thought about it, DH would know. Goingpostal, you can definitely feed your dogs raw totally, just hunt around for landfill diversion programs and offer to take people's freezer-burned meat off of Craigslist. Sales papers from grocery stores come in handy, and the stores that let you bag your own stuff usually sell the meat cheapest. Where there's a will, there's a way (trust me, we explored ALL options for our dog, because she was developing tumors, once we got her on full raw, they disappeared!).

I think I'm getting a 7 cu. Ft one. Its used so I don't know what brand it is, but it's way cheaper than new. Id love a upright freezer, but I'm not that picky about it. As long as I can use my freezer again for people food.

I just saw a freezer on craigslist in my area for $30. I don't have a use for it though since I feed a frankenprey/freeze dried combo. I just have the refridgerator the apt cam with and the itty bitty freezer on top. I just buy a few items at a time. Usually sometime like 5 cornish hens, a couple packs of giblets and a tub of liver. Usually what I buy for them combined with what I buy for Jay and I takes up all the space. I tried to buy WAAAY too much meat when I first moved in and had to have a friend tak some to her house to freeze for me lol.

Oh I wish I had a freezer! I had to spend all my saved up cash on meat for the ferrets, so I'm back down to about $50. Once I get close to $100 I'll probably have enough for a freezer
