Nancy hasn't got the best teeth for her age, she's supposedly nearly 3 but I think she might be older, how old do you think she is?

its hard to tell look at the fangs and see if they are looking transparent on the tips the higher the transparency the older the ferret but diet also plays a big part if a ferret has had a high calcium diet the fangs don't always go transparent hope this helps take care bye for now Bev

Take a look at the second pic. It's the best for ageing. She's got a clarity line that sits about a third of the way up making her about 4 or 5 yrs of age. Now there is any number of reasons (genetics, diet, care during kit) that would make her teeth age further than what her chronological age is. ciao

How old would you say a ferret is who has translucent teeth all the way up to the gum line?

Thanks for the info. I never thought of aging the ferret by the teeth. This information is a good confirmation of the age of the furball we adopted a couple years ago where the previous owner was guessing at the age.

Good to know about yellow translucent tipped teeth are from genetics/kibble diet! My two fuzzies are getting to that color! Going to look into dental care.

looking at those teeth I would guess eight/ nine the gums are also starting to recede so keep a close eye on them or you could hit problems with abscesses or tooth loss Bev

I would put Pip at around 7/8 yrs...the clarity is at least half way. There is clarity along the gum line, the gums are receding and from the first pic the front teeth between the canines are clear and worn. Keller....I would put at around 6 to 7. There doesn't appear to be quite as much clarity on the supporting teeth and the gums are not a pulled away from the teeth and Pip Uki appears to have clarity about a third up the canine...which puts him 3 to 5 yrs of age. The front teeth are not clear and are all present with some wearing noted on the lower teeth. There is little clarity along the gum line so I'm going to say closer to 3 than 5. Remember these are only guesstimates and factors such as nutritional deficiencies, health and drugs such as pred and heart meds can also be seen in a ferrets teeth ciao

Heather thank you! I would have guessed keller is the oldest pip is quite spry compared to him! Haha and its nice to have a rough idea even if its not an exact number! i was told Ukie was 2 and Keller and Pip were 4 But so far they all seem so healthy! (Which is extremely surprising! ) execpt for some tartar on the back teeth... (Im working on that) i keep an extra close eye on my little old men tho i know its very rare to have old fuzzys with out one of the popular 3 illnesses ❤❤
Side note would you suggest having them put under to have their teeth cleaned? Im scared bc the 2 are little old men or since they let me use a dental pick should i just continue with that at home

Personally, I would be very tempted to try brushing their teeth (I used a toothpaste from Virbac...sorry, I'm out of town and cannot check at this moment) rather than putting them under for a complete cleaning. I've done this but it's very hard on them to be put under and have their teeth done. I would try cleaning yourself (I brush every other day)and see if you can get some progress that way ciao
