Hello; not sure if im posting in the right place. Trying to figure out how old my 2 are. They wiggle a lot and I can't figure out how to remove the setting on my camera for it to wait until its in focus -.- I was told they're around 6 to 8 months old.. I want to find out if that's actually true. My little girl has Adrenal Gland disease so I'm just curious to see if she's truly that young. I'm sorry if this is the wrong area to post or the photos aren't good enough, they move so much and my camera has some weird issues. This is Blue- Apparently the older one of the 2, but I kind of assumed they were siblings or from the same location."] I'm sorry to say but you have been lied to. It's pretty common when people have older ferrets they wan to rehome - babies are easier to rehome, everyone wants babies. "6-8 months" is more like "6-8 YEARS" - I'd honestly guess they are probably 5-6 years old based on those teeth. Also, even coming from the same pet store as kits doesn't mean they are siblings. The breeding mills have hundreds of breeders, that produce hundreds to thousands of kits. At about 6 weeks give or take the kits are all collected and shuttled through essentially a procession line neutering and descending, then shipped in batches to holding facilities. From the holding facilities they are then sent out in shipments to the various pet stores. There's mixing and matching of litters all along that journey and odds of two ferrets from a same litter sticking together is probably relatively low - not impossible but certainly unlikely. This is the same reason that the so-called "birth certificates" they give out can never be considered fully accurate as well. That said, regardless of age your babies are adorable. <3 I would suggest getting a Des implant for your adrenal baby (or both really) if you haven't already.

I'm amazed! I don't mind them being older at all; I'm one whose all for adopting senior pets. Well good to know. Thank you. She has yet to get implants, we were planning on lupron injections. Just waiting to hear from the vet. Thank you for all your inputs. I truly appreicate it; I'm absolutley shocked!! A little sad I won't have them as long as I believed I would BUT, glad to know and not be in total shock if other things come up.

I typically defer to Heather's guess on ages, she has a lot of experience. And yeah, it is sad that they won't be with you as long BUT I have no doubt they will be thoroughly loved and spoiled in what time they have and it IS good to know ahead of time rather than when major health issues arrive for sure. Hugs to your babies!

Ok, one....from that picture your ferret appears to be older than 4 yrs old. Now look closely at the root...it's looking red, it may be an infection. That being said a ferret older than 4 yrs can have any number of reasons why they're loosing weight. A ferret who's loosing weight and is withdrawing from their friends needs to be seen by a vet ciao

I walked in to do a rescue for what I had been told was 2 ferrets (it was 3) and that they had bought them that year. I played with the little ones for a few minutes and asked outright how old? The woman said that the one a wee sable girly was about 18 months but the 2 boys were 9 and 6 months. She said she'd lost the paper work when they'd refurbished their house (yah right :face:) Husband walks in and says something to the effect are those stinky things still here? Woman goes yes but this woman is going to take them with her...he goes..good I want them gone...TONIGHT. I picked up the wee sprite and looked at her teeth. The woman goes her teeth are good. I said that's ok, you can age them by their teeth. The look of horror on her face was priceless. I scooped up the little ones and put them in the carrier. The fact that the youngest was probably at least 3 and the oldest about 6 yrs didn't matter. I wasn't going to leave them there. ciao

Like with Sinnead. We'd been told she was just turned two. She was closer to 5.

His teeth are in really bad shape. The clarity at the gum line is extensive...but that being said I'm going to say 5 yrs. ciao

Thanks! I expected 7+ when they told me he's so old. But the vet said he thinks he's around 4-5 but it's hard to tell with teeth in such bad shape. He'll get the professional cleaning when he's stronger, so he can be put under sedation, for now I think he's too weak...

Not sure if the thread is still open but any reply is welcome... Okay so I adopted my first ferret in April he was born in February and has beautiful white teeth after six months we decided to add another to the family. I bought one from Craigslist (bad idea I think not, she needed a home and that's all that mattered) anyways they said she was 9 months old they had no paperwork on her. After talking for days it was time to pick her up. Feces lined the cage so bad it had turned black and was encrusted on everything including her sleep sack. She was so small and frail I thought she would break, boney as could be I could feel everything in her body. It was heartbreaking. Silly me took their word on her age and couldn't wait to get her out of there. In my haste I forgot to check her teeth... until today. One of her top canines is broke the other is chipped. Her teeth are so dirty (in my opinion). I'm not an expert but I can't help but to think there is no way she is 9 months old...
