I just got the call today on my first rescue to arrive. She is a tiny girl that found herself in the pound. She also had her shots today. I plan to monitor her eating for the next few days before thinking about taking applications. She is a bit skinny and we all know what picky eaters they can be. I also have a family planning on bringing me their bonded trio on Thursday. Thankfully I have already had 4 different people ask me if I have anyone ready to adopt out. I hope to have them good homes by the time they are ready to go.

I hope to get pictures in the next day or two. I didn't want to stress her out too much today. Good news though. She looks to have eatten a little bit and I see a small poop in the litter pan.

I checked the litter pan this morning and the poop was a runny solid and green. Her energy level is still up as she enjoyed exploring my bathroom so I'm hoping it was just a reaction to new food or vaccines and not viral. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

No new poops since my last post. I'm going to try giving her some soup. Any other suggestions? If it is ece, how worried should I be about my others? I've read that most ferrets carry it, but it only shows when they are stressed, but I'm not sure how accurate that is as I haven't done a ton of research to date on this particular issue.

I've not experienced it with mine, but have read and been told if it's ECE there is a rank smell to the feces. If by chance it is that, it's quite communicable.

No rank smell. I'll keep an eye out for that. Good to know. On the up side she recently looks to have had a very small, but brown/black poop. I really hope it is just the stress. I can feel all her ribs and her hair is thin. I can only wonder what she went through before making it here. She got a second play time in the bathroom and loved it. Her energy seems okay and she is alert. I tried to give her a pinkie, but she ignored it. Hopefully I'm just being a big worrier for nothing.

Is this wee one eating? How much? The poop is very little for a kibble fed ferret. I'm thinking partial blockage is a possibility ciao

Its a good idea not to switch her to raw. I know it is bad not to but many people dont know raw and it will be harder to adopt thr ferrets out. Here are some tips coming from a shelter mom! Black poop =bad! It means a bleed in the digestive system.turns black when the acid gets to it,take the stool and smush it in a paper towel,is it red ir brown?
Soup recipe: 1can EVO wet cat food,2jars of beechnut chicken baby food, two teaspoons of powdered bene-bac,and sometimes food powder, works like a charm! Packs on pounds fast
Name lables with picture and discription of ferret as well as any diseases, insulinoma, adrenal ect
Lists for ferret play times and meds.
Just some tips! hope the little girl makes it alright! it does sound a bit like a blockage.you said you found a small black poo, this is a sign of intestional rupture if it is truly black. I saved a ferret that came in with these symptoms Signs of blockage, extremely underweight, did not want to play ect. We took him to the vet, three intestional blockage sites and intesine rupture plus thry found out he was adrenal.. Off topic sorry! Keep a close eye on her!
