Almost forgot the goat ribs ;D I'd frankly be surprised if they could get through those, but you never know for sure until you try

Hm, I will watch the stools, and if they are too loose, I'll swap out a muscle meat meal for bones. They have been good, but I think I had 8 meals of bone in this past week.
I was also skeptical about the goat ribs. I'll try those at some later date. They aren't wild about bones already, and I think adding a new meat to the bones would be a recipe for mutiny. On the hunt for turkey necks!

Chicken hearts a mixed bag. They definately figured out it was food. I sprinkled a bit of crumbled Wysong freeze dried over it to help them along. I saw both of them gnawing on pieces. I cut the hearts into about 4 lengthwise strips to help them get started on them. I'd say they probably ate about half of what I put out. This AM there was still a lot left, so I put some back in the dish from behind the couch, and after making faces and begging for a bit, Dominique went and ate some. So they'll eat them, but at least right now they're not a favorite treat.
Will keep you posted on bone-in progress.

Hi Sherry. I picked up turkey wings today to offer a different bone-in protein. They're not ideal because the bones are pretty hefty, but better than only chicken. I also saw that the grocery store with organic free-range meat regularly carries chicken liver and veal liver, so once I go through more of the liver I already bought I can also use some chicken and or veal liver.

They *should* be able to eat most of the tips, and might be able to consume some of the smaller bones from the middle section if you smash them up. But no way they can eat the drumette. If they can eat enough of it, that would be an excellent addition

The grocery store "helpfully" cut off the tip. I smashed up the middle bone pretty well. But they're totally boycotting the turkey. They've eaten turkey before, I don't know what's up with this. But they aren't even eating the meat and leaving the bones. I tried putting some Vivify on it. They licked it off and ignored the meat. Usually they'll progress into eating some. Little brats.

I have to admit- I am SOOOO glad mine are past this part ;D Keep trying it with them. Maybe cut some of the wing meat off and try that first.

I tried hand feeding them some chunks that happened not tho have any bones in. Dominique carried his off, ate it, but did not eat another piece. Snorri licked it but wouldn't carry it off to eat. I think they've eaten about 1/3 the usual amount of raw today. I know Snorri's cheating with Wysong Epigen, but I'm not sure what Dominique is doing. I'm going to give them chicken wings tonight, since I feel bad trying the turkey for longer than the 24 hours it's been. But tomorrow AM, after a good meal of chicken wings, it's back to turkey for another try. I thought they were past this part too, it didn't even occur to me I'd have to convince them it was food. They've had turkey more than a dozen times!
Also, a couple days ago, I gave them a new batch of liver and kidney soup. 1 c pork kidney, 1 c lamb liver, 1 ice cube of kibble soup, and 1 round of Wysong Dream treat, all pureed. They ate it up. So I think they're getting on board with the taste. Next go I think I'll try leaving out the kibble (it couldn't have made that much difference at that low amount anyway) and making it half puree and half fine dice. I would love to stop pureeing organs eventually.

Another thought, I think I'll pick up a little bit of fish next time I'm pestering the grocery store for hearts. I read several of the fish threads and think adding it to their diet once a week would give them another bone-in protein.

Out of curiosity- was the turkey a different brand than they had before? It can make a difference.

Hi Sherry. Yes, the turkey is a different brand. And I think they're pissy about the amount of bone-in they're getting, because now they're barely eating the bone in chicken. Although it is also a different brand than their regular chicken. I've coaxed a piece into each of them a couple times today. Tonight it looks like they did finally eat some of the chicken, after I crumbled some freeze dried Wysong treat over it to get them started. Although apparently they mostly just dragged it behind the sofa. Earlier they weren't even doing that, they just left it in the dish. Which is not typical at all, usually within an hour it's all behind the sofa.

I think I'd go back to the brand they were already eating ;D Mine do the same thing. I've got some clients, who after a party or what ever will put away the extras for me that they won't use for themselves. Wings, etc. They WILL NOT eat the wings from Costco! Absolutely refuse. Same with olive oil. It can only be one brand, then they'll slurp it up with no problem.

Hm. The problem is, what they are used to for chicken is from my meat share. So I get what I get every month, and that's it. The turkey might be possible to get, since it is a commercial brand. I will ask the store.
