Dr. Mandel @ Stephens City Animal Hospital Virginia (540) 869-2100
He has loads of experience with Ferrets but there are times that they no longer accept new patients. Apparently they can be hard to get established with from what I have been told. I didn't have a problem getting in though.
Any way while he seems to be the most experienced with ferrets in my area he can be a bit frustrating in the sense that if you want a test to be run and he doesn't feel it is needed he simply won't do it. The good side is that he doesn't try to run your bill up and if he does feel a test is needed then you can trust that he is being cincear. He is Pro vaccinations though so that should be noted.

Dr. Lisa Jeannetta Dougherty Vet Clinic 215 east 14th st Duluth MN 55811 doughertyveterinary.com/218-722-3963 Excellent vet, she goes to conferences and reads online, stays pretty up on ferret care. Fine with raw, fine with limited or no vaccines, great with the animals, no problems sitting and discussing options and she is realistic as well, not going to push for ridiculous wastes of money. She will diagnose and prescribe lupron or des based on symptoms, she can do surgeries including spay/neuter if need be. We have been using them for 8 or so years and unfortunately they are several hours from me and not cheap (not crazy high but higher end) but this vet is so worth it. The local vet is pretty much the opposite, not great with the animals, no ferret experience, Science Diet/Purina only and vaccinate for everything all the time so we take our dogs to Duluth as well and the owner Dr. Dougherty did a TPLO for Jersey last year, I would highly recommend him for non exotics also. He always stops in now when we are getting checkups to see her or find out how she is doing. Also they have an emergency vet across town open when they are closed, we have only used them once but they handled a ferret emergency great, considerably cheaper than I would have expected and were also ok with raw feeding after checking that I was doing it correctly.

Hi All, As posted on the FB page: I'm compiling an updated list of vets organized by country and by state (or provinces). I'm aware that there is a thread on the actual forum, but it's not an actual list. I am going through them though and verifying that those vets are still working at those clinics. But, If you'd like, List your vets info below. Name of clinic, vet's name, country/state/province, and maybe a phone number if you have it on you will do. I can google each one and and add in the rest of the info. Once I'm done, I will post it on the forum and the FB page. =) Happy posting.

Dr Brandon Dixon DVM Volunteer Veterinary Clinic Hendersonville Tn 615 824-8411. I like Dr Dixon, but he is not an advocate for the raw diet. He is pretty firmly against it. And I don't think he approves of my ferrets being free range. He is really nice, spent alot of time with us and I liked everyone in the clinic. The tech had never heard of grapetails, and thought that was pretty cool. We will continue to see him, and I feel pretty confident that Dr Dixon has my little ones best interests at heart.

Re the Australian vets: I don't necessarily know the vets but the ACT one is listed under NSW. NSW is a separate state and ACT is a territory not part of NSW. A licence is required in the ACT but not in NSW. I know this because I live in Queanbeyan which is in NSW but is very close to the ACT (really like a suburb). I have got ferrets from both places in NSW and in the ACT. In the ACT they will tell you you need a licence (like when I got Jester from the RSPCA in the ACT a little over a month ago) and would not have sold him to me until I produced said licence but as soon as I tell them I live in NSW I don't need one. They do still take your address details etc. so if someone from the ACT is tracking where the ferret went and why there is no licence reference they can tell them.

If anyone knows of a vet in Virginia closer to the northern neck area (Tappahannock, Warsaw, Mechanicsville, Richmond) I would be very appreciative! Unfortunately I was cursed to end up in the sticks and all the vets listed on here for VA are at least 2 1/2 hours away...I have had ferrets off and on since I was in high school and always have struggled to have a knowledgeable vet in my area. I have so many questions after coming across this site (which is wonderful by the way!) and have been spending a good part of my day just reading posts!

Dr Patty Link Ocean View Veterinary Hospital 2033 North Route 9, Cape May Court House, New Jersey 08210 6094865025 oceanviewvetnj.com
Dr. Link LOVES that we feed our boys a raw diet which I appreciated. She gave us tips on bolstering their nutrition intake using it. They are open 24/7 (which is the rarest thing ever in Cape May county) and they DO NOT charge an extra fee for coming in late on emergency. They saw my London at 2am when he was at the begining of the greenies and throwing up (I freaked out). They also saw him three times afterward to check on him and didn't charge us for anything but the meds. <3 HOWEVER dr. fritz is a fert doc there too and he hates raw diet. I didn't like him at all.

Halifax Veterinary Center. 1734 Dunlawton Ave. Port Orange, FL. 386 322 0108.
Dr Kluth was the first vet I had that dealt with insulinoma. Dr Bartos is my current vet. She has more ferret experience. They both are a pleasure to work with and respect my insight and hours of research.
