I thought I would share an idea I had that works great. It started out with the mice constantly playing with the water bottles, or piling bedding against them, so that it flooded the drawers. I got to thinking there must be a way to stop this, and decided to find a way to put the bottles outside the drawers. I made a small wire mesh cage and attached it to the outside and cut a big enough hole so they could have a drink. Worked fine, but then the mice decided they wanted to get out into the cage area which was too small. So back to the drawing board again, and this is what I came up with. A cage area attached to the front so they can come & go as they like, the water bottle is outside so no more flooded cages, and they just love it out in the fresh air. They often bring bits of bedding out to sit on, and they even bring breakfast out to eat, I think all they want now is the morning newspaper, lol. I have 2 sets of drawers with patio's now, and it helps to keep the cages cleaner too. They live outdoor, under cover of a night, until it gets cold for winter. Please copy my idea if you want, your mice will love you for it... The drawers have mesh lids

Interesting idea, but I'll be curious to find out if the little critters simply move their bedding to the outdoors and you still end up with empty water bottles? Do you have some sort of shed for them?
Cheers, Kim

There is only 1 drawer that put a bit of bedding out there sometimes. The others don't do it much. They have an area outside, with a tarp at night, it is summer here now, and their spot is in the coolest part of the yard. We are lucky this summer has been quite cool.

Neat way to fix the problem. Thankfully I've only had one mouse that loved to pile the bedding up near the water bottle.

I think they like the option of being able to go out in the fresh air if they want to. They can have a natural setting now, and they like sleeping out there, or watching what is going on around them, so they are not as bored as they were before locked in a plastic drawer. So happy healthy mice..
