I deep cleaned Rufus' cage today. I rearranged the shelves and washed all the bedding. The cage still looks very bare, but there are three sleeping ferrets inside! I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to use the ladders and stepped shelves, cause Rufus isn't as agile as the girls. I'm still hoping to get a FN cage when I get my tax check, but can't see how it'd be that much easier to arrange. Just easier to access everything!

I like super pet cages for male rats and qt cages. Ferret nations are easier to decorate. See how you have all tha wasted space on the small shelves? Ferret Nation shelves are much larger and you can put bedding on them. All 5 of mine can sleep on a shelf. But your cage can be modified to utilize all that space because its a tall cage. All you need is pegboard. A member on here created a solid second level in her cage I will see if I can't find the link. You could make one solid level on top with the shelves you have then put a blanket laid out over the shelf. You can get a fleece blanket for $5 at DG. Or check out thrift stores for baby blankets. The make another level out of the pegboard. Then you will have a bathroom level, dining room level and bedroom level.

Ok I found it. She covered the board with peel and stick tile and I think the cage is a ware cage not SP. I cant post the link my phone wont let me on the app but the thread is called "working on my cage envy".

As for arranging the FN, the shelves can go on one of three levels. What I've done before though is put both shelves on the bottom level, left out all the ramps, and hung tubing and the like in the top level. Here's a level without any shelves: Even space for a full sized playmat: Big enough for a hanging planter for a bed: If you take a look at the cage on the right, you'll notice both shelves on the bottom level, and the tubing coiling around on the middle level:

And the size in that last pic is misleading. That smaller cage? It's level with the top of my head. I'm 5'5" ;D

I'd love a ferret nation cage (I have 3 Super pets) but my kids are TERRIBLE about hitting their litter boxes... I'd have poop all down the back wall and on the floor.

The only one I have problem on that count with is Boris, and that's because his IBD can't seem to be brought under control. The problem I have is the fact that so many are convinced they have to "kill" their meat by shaking it to death Needless to say- you can well imagine when they have mice

I also have the Superpet cage with the purple shelves and the green ladder/slide, but liked the height in the blue one. I'm gonna keep an eye on Rufus and see how he's managing, and remove shelves if possible. I even though to check if the green slide will fit the blue shelves. That will give Rufus a way to navigate, withour so many shelves/steps!

See how you have all that wasted space on the small shelves? There are 9 blue shelves, ehough for three solid levels (and three have holes for pass through.) The problem is that there are only two doors in this cage, and no way to access everything! I found a FN cage on CL, but need my tax return to swing it. (Plus they are 40 miles away...)

Well, this is sort of a cage update! When I was at the petstore today, using my Nature's Variety coupon, I got a text from my boss. The Sunday gal called in sick and he wanted to know if I could work for her today. That's 7 hours today, with the three I did last night, that's about half the cost of the FN cage on CL!! I'm gonna email him and see if he's off tomorrow so I can go get it!

I wouldnt mind a new cage but, I prolly will have to start truly saving up for it and another or two( ). Though, I'd use my current cage for a temp cage when cleaning the other one. ;D

I'm headed down to pick it up at 11! I'm gonna clean up the old cages and list them on CL too. They aren't great cages (as far as access goes) but I may be able to help out another wanna be ferrant... Any money I get can go for more bedding!
