If the area is humid, mice can be worse. However, with that said my mice are in a small room and the ferrets are in the main area of the house. Mice smell like hamsters, possibly a little less. They should be cleaned weekly, so an hour or so on the weekend. They are feed fed. Just a quick look during the week to ensure that the water bottles still have water and there is still food in there. In-laws can be an obsticle. My mother can't stand the mice, but she has always disliked the tail issue. Thankfully I have my own house and don't have to worry about opinions other than my husbands.

I really don't think she'd care if I had mice too, I just don't get out of the house much and I think she feels it'll keep me in more. I'm looking for a job, but it's hard when youre not 18, not in school, and don't have a license, but in July I'm 18, and will get a job and license then. I have social security come in every month, and I use that to take care of the ferrets, but I lose that in a few months. They may be a lot of work but I'm so glad I got them. I got them to help with my depression and they work better than any medications. If I had mice, they'd have to be kept in the room with me and the ferrets; do you think that'd work having them in the same room or would it be to hectic and smelly?

do you think that'd work having them in the same room or would it be to hectic and smelly? Quite possibly. Also highly stressful on the mice. And on the ferrets knowing dinner is RIGHT there.

You can use it, but there are much cheaper ways to go. I like bin cages. It isn't that hard to cut large holes int he lids and cover with 1/4 inch harware cloth. Floor space means more than higth. If you want to see what mice are like, start with two cages. One for the male and breeding time and one for the females to give birth in and raise the bubs. You save a lot of time allowing the male to impregnant her while nursing, but the mice seem to be healthier if you wait and let her recover from feeding the young before breeding her again. This will give you an idea of what it is like to see if this is something for you.

That has a big opening, which is a huge plus. You will have trouble stacking it though. It isn't tall enough for even the 5oz. lixit bottles to hang in and leave space for bedding. I use a shallow one like that for holding the mice while I clean out their cage. The best thing for space is a tower. I can fit a tower of 4 bins in nearly the same space as a 10g. I choose to go with a slightly wider bin, but they have others that would be the same width as a 10g. I have my four ontop of a counter. 7 or 8 bins would fit if I went from the floor to how high it is now.

Well much to my disappointment, I won't be keeping live mice for now. Boyfriend was pretty against it, but the final sayso was from his mom who said "no". She's said we'd be in a lot of trouble if they got out. So I guess I'll have to go with frozen or all frankenprey for my fuzzies, if they permit it. I appreciate everyone's help and input; hopefully someday soon I'll get to do the mice and meat.

Can ferrets eat fish? If they can, can they eat kinds that you keep at home(gold fish, guppies...etc)

The biggest problem with the fish you Mentioned are the additives in the water. If those are not Involved no reason they can't be part of The diet. But since fish would not be a natural part of a ferret's diet, no more than weekly.
