It's been my experience that this all varies by ferret.

Odin was 4 or 5 when I got him. His habits...were not bad except for the pillows and a few other inanimate objects and of course Lady "B"(but she could fight back). Seemingly, he had been a local BYB's studfuzz until he escaped. It wasn't until I had him for a couple of years I found this out (though his previous owner had mentioned this might be a fact). The fellow approached me and asked about him, mentioning that he had lost his 'bino. I asked him why he hadn't tried to find him until now...said that he thought he had got killed by a dog or something, that he was always escaping. He finally traced him through the woman I got Odin from. I laughed and told him Odin was no use to him....he had lost his manly bits in his travels. The fellow wasn't too happy. Intact ferrets aren't an easy commodity here. An intact 'bino...not at all. ciao

Thank heavens you'd had him snipped! But after two years? No one could have a legal claim after that length of time. I'd have LOVED to have seen the look on his face when he heard, though ;D ;D ;D

No, it was indeed a bonus that I had got him done (what would I do with an intact ferret at the time). Now, I probably would think twice about altering him and setting him up for adrenal. The absolute joke, I had Odin in my arms while I was talking to this fellow. It had been Odin that had started the conversation. You know the round about conversation ....hey I had an albino ferret looked like him a few years ago...... ;D ;D ciao

Aww, if it saved Odin from living with a neglectful owner then it was for the best that he got snipped ;D
I would have loved to see the look on that guy's face too ;D

Well, today while I was at work my roomate called me to tell me that Finn was beating up on Fenton, and that they were both chattering and Fenton was screeching.
When I got home, I checked him over. He had a couple tiny scratches on his shoulders.
I saw them get into another tussle, with Finn pinning Fenton and mounting him, and Fenton chattering and screeching.
5 minutes later, all 3 of them were sleeping in a pile together.
How do I know when it's time to separate Finn? They enjoy cuddling and sleeping together in a pile, but i would say that at least once a day Finn harasses Fenton, Fiona, or both.
When is enough enough, how do I know when to separate them?

Are you using sudocreme? I never did have to separate Odin from the rest of the furkids (there were 11 or 12 at the time) but, he was older....we did have battles though. I would step in on these and tell Odin he was a bad boy and send him on his way. He usually got into it with Porthos, who really loved Lady "B". Attila and Odin had it out once and then it was over. Attila was twice the size of Odin and the fight was loud (Attila was a deafy), smelly (Odin was of course fully loaded)...it was about Lady "B" (I only had 1 female at the time ). It started and was over in the time it took me to run to the end of the hallway. Attila threw Odin off the wall and trundled off into the bedroom. Odin went off in the opposite direction singing his hob song in an agitated manner. They never fought again. Porthos was a very tiny DEW, a very tiny feisty DEW....he and Odin sometimes had disagreements. I would step in. Perhaps, when there is no one to supervise Finn could live in his cage. When you're at home let everyone out to play together. Honestly, I think each hob has his own agenda and limits...Finn has figured out what his agenda is (he just doesn't quite understand it ) and he's busy setting his limits. It's going to be up to you how far he gets to set his limits. Remember, he's a teenager now, he won't be much on manners and pleasantries and if he thinks he can get one over on you...he will ciao

Hmm, well, I had put Sudocrem on them maybe a week ago, but I think it wore off. I forgot to re-apply it! I just applied some this morning, we'll see if the NoMolestol treatment protects them today So far the battles have been pretty tame, they have just involved Finn leisurely scruffing and mounting either Fenton or Fiona, while they protest and complain. No blood, poop, or pee, and it's usually over pretty quick... but he's also not in full rut yet. How often should I apply the Sudocrem for it to be effective? How much should I put on? Has anyone posted pics showing how much is enough? I just put on a light smear today, I took a small dab on my finger and spread it all over the palm of my hand, then wiped my hand on each ferret's neck and shoulders. Do you think that's enough? Boy, they sure get annoyed when I apply the stuff! They don't even like wearing it I can imagine it's a good deterrent...
