I bought a container yesterday, and a bag of jasmine rice, all at Walmart, and made a rice box for the kids. I thought Baloo and Meeko would go crazy for it, but I was somewhat wrong. Baloo loved it as soon as his paws sank in the rice for the first time, but not Meeko. Baloo started scratching and snorkeling and everything instantly, throwing rice everywhere... But Meeko shoved her head in slightly for a few seconds, looked up, and jumped out. Does this mean she just doesn't like the box and the feel? Or she's just unsure of what to do with it? Lyla did the same thing as Meeko... But the funny thing is that when Meeko's in the clean litter container, she scratches and digs and everything, but not in the rice box... Should I just give her some tome to understand that it's fun? Or is she just saying that she doesn't like it at all? Thanks! I took a video of Baloo, I'll try to get it online soon

Give her time....I've got some who really love it and others who are ambivalent about playing in it. They're the ones that love the beans, or the soil boxes. Different textures, smells attract different ferrets ciao

Only dig box Sinnead would play in was packing peanuts(veg. base). That or leaves. The rest like anything, lol!

Lyla loves to eat them But Meeko nor Baloo ever took attention to them... lol! It may be a matter of finding what Meeko likes! hahaha

hmmm, Heather, does it matter what type of beans you use in a dig box? I just use the regular...navy beans, I think they're called. I've used split peas and kidney beans too...any dried lentil (I'm certainly not going to eat them I'm as big a carnivore as my brats) ciao

I made a Easter grass box, but the kids like it for sleeping more than playing. I also made an Easter egg box, but it never gets played with. I wanna try both a rice and bean box now!

Another one I've read about, but not tried myself, is macaroni. I know mine won't eat it, since it's in the derby eggs they love so much. They've gotten the odd one open, and once that happens, they ignore the contents and stash the plastic egg ;D

Great ideas guys! Once I get the box itself cleaned out (....it is currently full of art supplies...oops ) I am going to make them a dig box! I think the water box needs to be retired for a little while. My mom seems to think that non-instant rice is going to be expensive? We don't have any asian markets or anything around me..

I get a twenty pound bag for about $15- $20 on average. And don't forget- everything is more expensive here! That, plus the fact you'll get several months of play out if it

Pretty sure I got my huge bag of rice from Wal-Mart for a couple bucks. Check the very bottom shelves!

That's what I do. The cheapest tend to be on the bottom, and in the larger bags.
