Amazing! As I said, I've never had to use it, and was going on good reports from others on how much it helped them. I'm going to do some research on it when I get home. I wonder if it's delivery system(a couple of drops) makes any difference. The warnings could be aimed at cats/ferrets eating larger amounts. Some things are safe in very small amounts, but highly toxic in quantity. I really need to check this out.

I wonder how safe this product is? Main ingredients are Balsam and Camphor. Camphor: similar to menthol. Has a cooling effect. This is what wiki says about it "Although touted as a cough suppressant, it has no effects on respiratory tract function. A recent publication in Pediatrics suggests the topical application of VapoRub may improve symptoms of colds and sleep quality when compared to a control." eHow says "Camphor is a strong-smelling essential oil originally made from the wood and bark of the camphor tree." Essential oil??? This page says small amounts are toxic in cats.. www.ehow.com/facts_5786398_camphor-toxicity-cats.htmlThe Pet Poison line says its toxic to cats and dogs -> www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/camphor/Balsam oil is also an essential oil... www.for-the-love-of-cats.com/Poisons.html This site says that parts of the balsam tree is poisonous to cats. I don't know, I'd probably avoid it. JMO. Sorry, but I don't know who created this product for ferrets...should have known, it's a marshals product . These are the ingredients Ferret RX Ingredients: Balsam, Camphor USP, Oil of Origanum, Oil of Rosemary, and Corn Oil. This is highly dangerous and should never be used. Camphor even in small amounts can be fatal to cats (causes renal and kidney failure) and an essential oil....no not a good combination for ferrets (or cats for that matter)... If you absolutely have to get something for your ferret for their respiratory issues get some vibactra from Amber technologies. It can be accompanied with Parvaid if your wee one is having such issues that they're refusing liquids. ciao

Thanks for the info. I used this stuff before finding this site - it didnt harm any of the ferrets I used it on and I did not know it was toxic. I only used a drop twice a day for about a week and that was about 3 years ago and I will not use it any more.

I was just sick about a month ago and worried that I gave flower a cold because her nose was runny and she was licking it a lot. My vet said if the runny nose starts to run mucousy looking stuff or she start sneezing or coughing and loses her appetite to put her an antibiotics, but because you can't cure viruses you kind of just need to let them run thier course it would be pointless to give her antibiotics at that point because she didn't have anything that they could cure. I think the worry is secondary infections in which case antibiotics would help. So I would just keep a close eye on him.

Good to know, thanks everyone! opalraven thanks for sharing what your vet said!
He has been eating up a storm (they all have been since they started getting raw mixed with freeze dried for soupies! crack for ferts!). They've all seemed a bit subdued lately but I'm going to introduce some new toys and see if that changes things up a bit, I think they may be bored...
