Last week Dakota got her wings I've had a REALLY difficult time with it, so now just able to post.
She had not been doing the best since December, having some issues controlling her bowel, since then she has been at the vet frequently. We did all kinds of tests on her, nothing came back in fecals or urine samples, her blood work all came back good, even her BG was up better then usual.
She had to be split to a hospital cage, she just couldn't get around like she use to and had fallen off the ramp, didn't get hurt but I just couldn't take the chance, so she went into the one level for easy access to everything.
Sunday AM, woke up to go give her meds, and you could tell she had lost weight overnight. Then later that afternoon/evening, she started to have black stools, I got a hold of vet right away we started to treat for ulcers. She continued to go down hill quick, nothing was working and she then refused foot and liquids.
I took her right to vets, on my way I just felt it, she was trying to leave me and that it would be her time. Vet seen her, she had stomach cancer that grew rapid and it perforated causing internal bleeding hence black stools and that there would be no chance for recovery
He said she would pass very soon, and she was so miserable I couldn't be selfish and had to make the choice to put her down. She didn't give the vet a fuss at all, you could see it in her she was ready.
I held her in my arms as she stared into my eyes and passed away
Dakota was going to be 7yrs old on Jan 30th. She wasn't even supposed to make it past 3yrs old due to malignant cancer but beat all odds and lived almost 4 years longer.
Dakota was my very first ferret, and my last of the original trio. I miss you Dakota, you were my favorite lil princess and will be more missed then you can imagine. Dook on sweet baby your finally cancer free, give Dancer and Tipsy a big kiss for me!
