Just thought it might be an idea to have a stickied thread with videos and pictures of our little ones doing that dreaded dead ferret sleep for the benefit of those who've either not experienced it, or for new owners! Keep in mind- your ferret's respiration will slow right down, and their heart rate can as well. Body temperature will frequently drop as well. Had I not read about it, and seen videos before Lucrezia did this to us the first time, I'd have truly panicked! Here's Willow with the dead sleep:

I've seen it with mine five or six times, but Pippin was in a dead sleep today and I still panicked for that first moment when picking him up...

The funny thing is that Reks doesn't dead sleep often. He just happened to be when I was trying to explain what it was to our friend ;D Also, Willow is so gosh-darn cute

That is an excellent video of a ferret dead sleeping. A question, is Rek a deafy? ciao None of my four are... not even my blaze, Sari! Reks is definitely not deaf since he is frightened by anything that makes loud noise (especially vacuum cleaners, even when they're not in the room : . He will run and hide as soon as he hears ANY loud noise

Dead sleep is so scary. I have had Hiro do that before, and you can imagine my happiness when he decided to wake up for me. Dead ferret sleep is jarring to me.

LOL there all soo cute, its been rather hot lately an trying to keep possum cool has been so hard but i have caught her doing this sometimes during the day and i freak that she has died and end up talking softly to her then when she doesn't respond poking her then i take her out of her cage to wet and put the fan on her because its hot. :3 Possum is a outdoor ferret hence why she isn't always with me when I'm home. But i do adore her

Wow, those are some hilarious (and scary!) pics! None of my 3 do this. Two of my girls are sables (chocolate and dark) and Trixie is a champagne. Seems like "fancy" colors are more prone to this? Most of the pics here are white ferrets or ferrets with white markings.

I have to admit, that silver, white and exotic ferrets appear to dead sleep more than the sables but....here's one sable in a very dead sleep and he did this often, Napoleon. Now...he passed on at a very early age of 5 to pleural infusion. Was this a hint? Here's Boris also dead sleeping. He's another ferret with serious heart issues Fun-Go who is a DEW also dead sleeps regularly. He's a severe deafy who also has insulinoma Is there a correlation between serious underlying health issues and dead sleeping. I don't honestly know but it is an interesting correlation between health issues and colour (this is a fact), so why not dead sleeping...no answer for that one ciao

This is a twofer. Can you find the SND ferret in the picture. (He was such a slow waker this morning, but I couldn't help but take a pic of this.) He's a silver, partially deaf. Attachments:
