Ever had your poor ferret sneeze numerous times in a row, then get a high pitched wheezy sound? Riley did that just now. I forgot to put her blanket in the cage last night, so all she had was an open hammock =[ Could she have caught a cold (house is kept at 65 F at night)? This is the first time all day I've heard her sneeze, but it scared me soooo much. What's the lowest temperature ferrets can get along fine in?

at 65 she should be fine, does she have any discharge out of her nose? if she caught a cold its most likely off of someones clothes in the house, i kept my ferrets at 50 last year and they fared just fine. i dont know about the wheezing. icha wheezes but its because hes got nose problems

I would agree if she has anything, it's probably not from 65 degree temps. I keep the windows open in the ferret room so it gets down to 30-40 degrees at night this time of year and they haven't shown any effects other than thick winter coats

Okay, thats a relief. I think she may have just been sneezing like normal then. *phew*
No discharge and I haven't heard her sneeze since. =]
It just scared me since she sneezed so much at once and then wheezed. Thank you!!!

The wheezing could be from a hair or two caught in her throat. Kiwi was coughing and wheezing a couple weeks ago. It's shedding season so if you aren't already, you might want to start using a hairball preventative. I use extra virgin olive oil all year and add in pumpkin for the shedding season.

I've been looking for pumpkin but have yet to find it. Will probably need to just order it online, so until then I have the stupidly sugared Ferret Lax, but at least it works eh?
I've been giving them a really small bit in the morning, then a decent glob (still around the recommended dosage for shedding season) once they go up at night. Booth has even stopped hacking as much

I believe that ferrets cannot catch the common cold. Only the flu and upper respiratory infections.

Yes, I tried three groceries stores near me and they do not carry it. Where my mom lives only one store (out of 4) carries it, but they normally carry a low stock of the small cans, so every time I have looked they are out and only have one large can. >_<
I have one more store to try up here then I will be buying it online otherwise.

It does sound like he had a hair or bit of fur caught in his nose. As for the pumpkin- you can also use squash. Either cook your own up(acorn is a good one), or get some squash baby food.
