As many of you know Yuri passed on Christmas Eve after he went into emergency surgery to remove what was thought to be a blockage. Instead the surgeon found a mass that was working its way around the bottom half of his stomach. At first they thought that it might be possible to remove it but it turned out that there were huge finger like veins that had plugged themselves into a main artery. There was no way remove this "growth" without Yuri bleeding to death on the table. The fear that also once removed that the stomach would be so compromised that Yuri's life would be filled with pain and the inability to properly process his food.
I've started this thread so many times and erased it each time. Yuri was a sweety, he was smart little fellow who always seemed to be on the edge healthwise. He came to me so thin and in a manner that I assumed neglect. Now, I'm not so sure. He and food seemed to be on alternative paths. He would start to put on weight, only to loose it all with some vague illness. He had us baffled as to what was really wrong, now we know that cancer was his problem but nothing came up as conclusive. Yuri was about 5 or 6 yrs old, a waardenburg deafy with a lot of physical and social issues.
Yuri, I miss your silly dancing and breaking into my cupboards. I miss our quiet snuggles when you and I would argue about food being a necessary component of ferret life. I never did hear you dook, but I like to think you were happy here. The one that misses you most, is baby Minion. You came into his life when he needed you most. He came into your life when you needed him most, he taught you that life went on even in spite of the death of a best friend. You taught him all sorts of annoying things, breaking into the cupboards, climbing towers and cages. How to push things around so you could climb up onto tables and chairs. I like to think that it was your personality that helped teach Minion that hands were friendly and that people weren't out to hurt him.
Yuri, I hope that you and Napoleon are enjoying lots of warm snuggles together. I know that you missed him a lot. Gentle journey sweet boy, Minion and I miss you so much.

This photo was taken the night before taking Yuri into the vets. I found the two boys snuggled in together. It was something that didn't happen often as Yuri preferred to sleep alone.
ciao
