I have some egg shells that I can add to this mix to improve it. Last time I ground the legs and wings of a turkey my grinder was really unhappy. Maybe I can get my dh to beat on them next time. How many lb of necks should I add? I'll have 20lb of chicken thighs next time with pork and parts from a 15lb turkey.

Egg shell would be a good idea to add to your mix. The problem I'm encountering with trying to adjust your wee ones diet is that I've done this so long that I know by what bone chunks are left in the bowl, how loose or formed the ferrets poops are just what I have to do with the next batch. I have a supplier who sells me a bone mix that I just add meat to. Now that bone mix has meat, but it's made up of primarily chicken backs and necks. That is too bone dense, so all I do is add whatever ground up meat I want to that mix (and other goodies too ) I"m guessing that the turkey meat is just meat? I would be tempted to add 3 to 5 lbs of necks to your mix and see what happens (there is also more meat added by the necks too). Don't forget you will be adding liver and heart to your mix too (very necessary). If you think your ferrets stool is too dry then back off or add a bit more meat to your mix. A lot of this is trial and error. You will note that some ferrets do better with more or less bone. I find in general that I feed a much higher ratio meat to bone to my younger ferrets while my older ones get less. Baby ferrets and breeding jills need even more. Yes, bashing the daylights out of the bones will make your grinder much happier (those bones are great for taking frustrations out on ;D) ciao

Thanks Heather. Yes it is hard to adjust from a far. I was going to feed the hearts & liver separately so I know how much each animal is getting. Also I meant to say that Jeremy ate one whole slice of beef liver not an entire liver
